my mpc is dead....someone help!

exactly. i didn't say i saw lightining and decided to turn my **** on. and at the time, my machine DID take 4ever to load cuz it only worked every so often. it's funny how everyone knows everything all of a sudden...

Your power supply is browning out. The brown out may have already turned into a blown supply. If it was just a fuse, the only problem you would have experienced would be the inability to turn the unit on.

However, you were experiencing problems with functionality too. The MPC is just like any other computer, multiple voltages are required to power the CPU, the peripheral bridges, etc. Your supply was missing a voltage...causing the unit to prompt for the OS disk. Now the unit won't turn on period, so it would appear that the entire supply is shot.

I would recommend that you take it to a repair shop that specializes in M.I. repair, not just your average TV or VCR joint.

If it requires repair, shouldn't cost more than $150; of replacement is required, you might be able to get a used PS for $200. New power supplies for a 2000 run about $400.00. My bad, these are Canadian dollar quotes, do the math for USD.

Right, but if and when the power does go out, a voltage spike won't kill your MPC. I did say a 'good' one too.

man, it's happening to me too! I was making some drums, while I was tapping the button pads the mpc froze on me and when I turned it off and on I would get a blank screen. I mos definately need help!

you know the screen burn you see with 20 video games, and BS tv's....you are doing that to your machine........the later akai s rack samplerz have switches to turn the screen off or down............mpc's don't do that..........and it's a gamble anyway. Leave it on all the time, ready to work-one day you'll get to it ready yourself, and it won't be there for you. bad studio ettiquette.
