Skip the SCSI, back when i had a 2000XL i was using a SCSI drive and it wasnt reliable at all, a lot of failure, which is a pain.
I use a CF nowdays (with a 3k) and it just works better in all ways possible, safer, faster and easier.
On the EB16 i liked it a lot, and you could keep an eye open for S2000's, some of them got the EB16 in them, and usually come dirt cheap
