External Hard Drive

Skip the SCSI, back when i had a 2000XL i was using a SCSI drive and it wasnt reliable at all, a lot of failure, which is a pain.

I use a CF nowdays (with a 3k) and it just works better in all ways possible, safer, faster and easier.


On the EB16 i liked it a lot, and you could keep an eye open for S2000's, some of them got the EB16 in them, and usually come dirt cheap

Yeah, i like my CF drive. Just was curious how those SCSI's worked.

I just scored an Akai DPS12 with a clean screen for $100. Pretty happy. Been waiting a long time to find a deal on a back up screen and I get to try out a DPS12 in the mean time. Always wanted to see how a hardware multitrack would work.

Now, if I can just find a EB16 at a good price.

SCSI is the type of interface, it can be a SCSI hard drive, a SCSI card reader, a SCSI CDROM, a SCSI magneto-optical drive, a SCSI Zip drive, etc.

The other types of interfaces/connectors in an MPC2000XL, along with SCSI, are IDE/ATAPI and floppy.

In the same way as there are many types of SCSI devices listed above, you can have the same devices with an IDE/ATAPI interface instead of a SCSI interface.

A SCSI hard drive is just as reliable as an IDE hard drive, a SCSI card reader is just as reliable as an IDE/ATAPI card reader, etc.
