So what's the point of Programs anyway?

I know it's 2kxl topic, but I think it's the same. For instance on 1000 you can store and instantly use even 129 programs and you can utilse them to automatically switch samples within same sequence of notes or even as playing live (not recording any notes) - cycle type of stuff - so hitting same pad gives you sample from different programs.

Well, sounds like I'm not under-utilizing Programs, just that they really have no use for me. I'll probably make one with all my 808/909 sounds in it, and maybe another with a bunch of drums to get to things all little more quickly when I hop on the machine. And obviously still any Program exclusive to whatever project I'm working on. I can see how using them like a synth patch could help some people out, but I have a rackmount sampler with filters, envelopes, effects, etc., I use specifically for that purpose.

Because I haven't really messed with Programs before...so if I load up the 4 of them, and I switch between the 4, all the sounds will be there, right? Like Program 1 is a drum kit, so I record that on Track 1. Then then switch to Program 2 for a bassline, record that on Track 2. Switch to Program 3 for chopped sample, Track 3. And the sequence plays everything back? It's only if I loaded up another program on top of Program (x) that it would replace the sounds, yeah? Or does the sequence only play back sounds from the currently selected Program?

it will play back from whichever drum program is associated with each track.
so yes - you can play back all 4 programs simultaneously.

my relevant tip is:
use tracks 61-64 as program select tracks. set track 61 to drum1, 62 to drum2, etc. then on each of those tracks, go down to the bottom right 'PGM' field in main screen, and set your program there. now, every time you load that sequence, it will assign the correct programs to the proper drum slots.
you have to make sure your programs have unique program change numbers for this to work, but its not hard.
i use tracks 61-64 because that way they dont get in the way of your other tracks.
