Finally Got One

SO Y'ALL, it showed up today and im pretty happy that i made the decision to get it(so far). it came with a CF card but i have a SD card that i use for my MB Pro. i loaded these SP1200 drum .WAV's i had waiting onto the SD, used the SMB cleanup as recommended by SILIS101(it works for me as well) to make sure no extra trash was on it and i popped it in. loaded the sounds off the card and assigned to pads(in a simple yay or nay, can i load all the sounds at once? i wasnt really caring where they went), i then proceeded to make a very crappy drum track but i was happy that it doesnt look like it will be too complicated. i almost called in to work but im gonna need money to support a vinyl buying habit thats coming.

BTW i only have 2MB RAM for now

Congrats. Glad it's all working well. In order for you to load all your samples at once, you'll need to save your samples in a PGM (program) file. Then you can load that program any time and get right down to making beats in no time.

and the ram is the second cheapest possible expansion for the 2000xl

Congrats!! I've had mines for 2 months now and spent the first 3 nights with only 2 hours of sleep. I love it to death. I went hard on it. You have all the veterans here giving you the best possible advice! But let me tell you first hand and since I am a newbie to beatmaking, I learned the hard way. Hope this small advice can save you a headache.

dont name anything in the machine with any names longer than 8 characters!
you will have trouble using the memory cards on a mac...consider just using windows/linux if possible.

Tapedeck knows exactly what he is talking about! I lost my first dozen beats song seq because I tried loading wav files that had way too many characters and all that added junk from my p.c. and changed my .ALL to a different name and corrupted the file. Also make sure they are 16bit files. Have fun

@jay that Is why I prefer to just sample everything from the analog in and let it default name to sound01 sound02, keeping every beat into individual folders man. It's not as convenient as copying to the CF and loading on the MP but it's how I do it I guess.

I let the MPC name the samples by default too. But it's also a good idea to abbreviate the samples you might need to name in the future. For example, BD=bass drum, SD=snare drum, etc. You'll get the hang of it when you decide on your own method of naming samples when you need to.

Looks sweet! You should consider getting the 8 outs so you can send the different elements to seperate channels in a mixer and give some EQing, I remember not having a EQ being a buzzkill for me back when I had my 2kxl (I have a 3k now).
However you're goona love it! It does take time but after some getting used to it you'll be faster than you expect, got my first mpc in 09 and havent looked back at all.

Congrats. I got mine last weekend and spent the entire weekend on it. Get some more RAM, definately. 2MB is small. I got 32MB in mine, it makes a difference. You got the FX card?

nah no FX card.....yet. i did order RAM so i'll toss that im this week

im savin for a new car but that MPC was a helluva deal. had too. definitely got the 8 outs in my foreseeable future

agree, i just sample straight into the mpc from my computer and only use my drive for saving

Heads Up!!!! i just installed my RAM that i paid for $9.00, watchin that sample exceed the 300secs on MONO was a beautiful thing. i need to buy a TV stand so i can take my desk back and leave my MPC hooked up
