I thought that at first....but I looked up his model of turntable (PT-01), and it must have a built-in pre-amp, because it offers "Line Outs" rather than "Phono Outs."

In my opinion, I would try buying two separate cords that are each RCA--->1/4".
Then put one in the left and one in the right (instead of both left and right feeding into one channel.)
Try that before buying anything expensive.

according to numark.com, my pt01 has a built in preamp...
here's the whole thing from the site:

I plug the red and white cords to the red and white on the turntable, and that turns into a 1/8" plug on the other end. That same 1/8" is plugged into a 1/4" adapter, and that is connected to my MPC mono-left on the record in.

The problem is, you have TWO RCA cords that turn into ONE 1/8" jack.
The left and right (red & white) need to stay two separate cords.

Go buy a stereo RCA cord. (two RCA jacks on each side --- in other words red & white RCA's on both sides.
Then buy two RCA-to- 1/4" adapters.

Then connect the turntable LEFT OUT to the MPC's LEFT IN.......
...and connect the turntable RIGHT OUT to the MPC's RIGHT IN.

I'll test it out. I'll get back to y'all on that. Thanks for all the help.

Yeah I'd like 2 Know how it turns out

plug the red and white RCA cables in the back of your MPC, and then get two PHONO RCA to 1/4inch Jack adaptors. then you can just plug them straight into your L&R record ins on your mpc

i jsut did something that wasnt so smart...I went to the record store last week
(i think you can guess where i'm going from here)

I have not too much cash left (look, dont judge me. they had a sale, and everything was calling my name)

so, here's what ima do i the meantime:
i'll go to radioshack and pick up a y-splitter (one jack turns into two jacks)
i'll plug that into the audio out on my computer.
from there, i'll plug the 1/8" cord into one of the mono in 1/4" jacks (i own one already)
all i have to do from there is record onto the computer from whereever and play it into my mpc 2kxl

i know its pretty elementary, but uhh... times is hard
