Yeah word, that shit isn't so sought after in aus. La Records, I don't think you'll find any preamps in D!ck Smith or Tandy or anything, it might be worth a try. I know you get phono preamps for around 250. But call around and search google for australian sites for specifics etc.

ok so now i need a pre amp device like the one u posted ? i thought all i needed was the stereo to 6.5 inch jack.. thats what they said in dicksmith. damn man.. i dont have no more cash to buy other shit.

6.5"?! nah man, just 1/4" I think. What turntable do you have? Did you buy the mixer new? If so how long ago?

Forget about hooking up your turntable directly to that alto, it has no RIAA convertors. Even if you can get the level up high enough it'll lack bass and definition.

As someone else said, get a decent phono preamp from Radio Shack or buy a real simple dj mixer like those very basic stantons. Get a used one off ebay taht has a broken cf or something, might even be cheaper than a preamp. A decent phono preamp will lighten you $ 35

Yeas sounds like you just need to get a new mixer, a dj mixer with pre's, with no pre's the audio will barely be audible and will sound like shit. If cash is an issue go to a pawn shop and pick up a used mixer for the time being.

hmm so thats what was making mine sound that way. when i first had my table hooked up (i forgot how i had it hooked up) but it was giving me a really thin sound. hardly any bass or low end. sounded bad. thanks for the tips (even though it isnt my thread :wink: )

The pre-amp device from radio shack only cost me like 10 to 12 US dollars. It is a good deal for what you need to accomplish. Don't forget the 9 volt battery for about 1.00 U.S.

that mixer doesnt support phono input plus how do you ground the turntable?

Best option
the AKAI mfc 42 dropped in price its a useful analoge filter it has a ground for a turntable. rca input 1/4inch input, rca output,1/4inch output. you can filter out all the highs or lows on any samples, or realtime filter sweep. i think the sound quality is better than most dj mixers.

if you plan on scratching or other turntable tricks you may need a dj mixer of course it would be best to get both.

dj mixers. vestax 06pro,05pro,07pro great faders sound quality decent.
pioneer djm707 great faders sound quality decent
Rane exellent faders good sound quality but expensive
Allen&heath Xone 02 excellent faders great sound quality a little less expensive than rane. if you have $499 to drop on a mixer allen & heath is solid. i would stay away from stanton, numark, american dj, gemini, etc.

last option if your real poor and need a quick fix there is always behringer german made pretty decent especiallly when you consider price.

La records do you have a reciever(amp) i mean a stereo that you hook up cd players and tape players to. oh wait you said you have studio monitors that are powered right. You could get just a SONY reciever route the the turntable & ground. then into the mpc
