I have heard one report from MANTIS69 that the $17 works in the XL. Me and you had no luck with the $27 one. Seemed like such a good deal, but just doesn't work, any pin settings or OS changes did not matter. I am tempted to get the $17 one, but would almost rather go with a sure thing, plus that model only accepts CF (I can live with that though).
I'm not sure if anyone has needed OS 1.2 for card readers like was originally thought. Seems like any SCSI or ATAPI device should have always worked.

When format my Zip disks in my MPC, my PC will never recognize them again. It won't even be able to reformat them. I assume that the cards work the same way, unless the new OS addressed this issue. Would OS 1.20 fix this for me?

So instead of answering my question with either 2 or 3 letters (AKA yes or no), you link me to an atricle to read. Seems like more work on your end, just to prove some sort of point about people not doing thier own research
Anyway, here's part of the article that was relevant:
Mike Goins <mike@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: The subtle difference in 1.20 was to put a partition table on the disk much
like modern FAT file systems. This allows for easier movement from MPC and
PC. In fact, while you can select to divide a disk in multiple partitions,
the MPC will only create a single partition in "PC" format under 1.20. The
MPC will still create "MPC2000XL" formatted disks but only if they are very
large. I am not sure if this threshold is 1 gig or 2 gig.
In effect, v 1.20 had little do with new ATAPI drive known as the MCD as I
have had reports that older OS's worked just fine with the card drives, but
rather the update was to deal with the MPC's formatting and drive handling
for easier interopeability between the MPC and computers. In addition, I am
pretty sure the XL 'inherited' this from the MPC1000.
Maybe I'm just stupid, but it seems to me that this doesn't definitively answer my question, just hint at an answer, so I'll ask again:

He took the time to search out and post a helpful link, why are you complaining?
Anyways, its simple, just format in the PC and you wont have problems. If you have problems formatting in the MPC, why risk it? Goes for all devices, why risk it there either? The link says that it MAY fix the problem, but I'm sure its not tested against every drive out there. But if you want to try it, go ahead and download the OS, its free and takes a minute to install.

Where did I complain? I just stated the facts about what happened during the exchange. My point was, and still is, that instead of answering my question, he 'made me do the leg work' which required more of an effort on both of our parts.
Which made me say:
BUT, I'm always on the search for more knowledge, so I decided to read the article and...
I STILL don't know the answer to my question!!!
So to repeat myself (yet again):
BTW MC Smooth, Why you so up on this kids d!ck? No one was talking to you, mind your business.

This board is FULL of people that would rather tell you to search or tell you where to find info, instead of taking less time to tell you the answer you want. This board, as far as I thought, was for people to ask and answer questions regarding MPC's. If you know the answer, then tell me/us. If you don't, keep your fuking mouth SHUT!!!!![]()

No. I believe the 1.2 was for the bigger size memory cards 1 to 2 gb (someone please correct me on this).
Or just load the OS 1.2 and see for yourself. Good luck...

I just don't like changing OS's if I don't have a need, but maybe I'll try it out. I'd rather have someone whose got it to let me know, shouldn't be too hard.

I got the synchrotech cf reader and my MPC2kXL will not boot up. It just stays at the first screen. I have OS 1.14. And I tried all diferent jumper settings. I was wondering if 1.20 would maybe help?

I threw in advice as well as 3000 (who has provided more to the community than 99.9% of the board). You wonder why nobody helps you. Like you expect to treat people like sh*t and then they'll hold your hand for you. Your post was completely off topic anyway. Takes 2 mins to load the OS and yet a week later you still haven't bothered. I loaded 1.2 and did not notice any differences. You could just do what everyone says on this board every week and format on the computer. Or feel free to risk losing it.

No.
You have to make sure that the jumpersettings are set to MASTER. The manual of the synchrotech reader shows you how to do this.

Randomsample, can you explain what your mpc does when you turn it on?
