Okay, I'm about to take on this same task. Let me get this straight:

1. Install the cardreader first and foremost.

2. Then upgrade to version 1.20. But download/extract 1.2 directly to one of the cards that will load into the MPC.

3. Boot up MPC in manual mode (holding play button when powering up MPC) and load OS 1.2.

After I load OS 1.2 should I power off power on MPC again? Or should I be good to go right after OS 1.2 finished loading?

You can even omit step 3. Just install the card reader, make sure it works and then (if you feel like upgrading to os1.20) load the new os bin file from the flashcard. I don't think you need to reboot your MPC after you upgraded your os AFAI can remember :D

I changed my OS a few times, and never had to do the power on/play combo.
