A midi keyboard question.

Place a midicable between your controllers MIDI OUT and plug it into one of your mpc's MIDI IN.

everyones a noob once, and im not new to messageboards so im really sorry for asking this incredibly simple question on a huge message board like this.

i have the MIDI out on my keyboard, going to the MIDI in #1 on my MPC2000XL. in the MIDI INPUT MONITOR screen, its recognizing keystrokes on "IN 1" #1. in the sequence screen, i have track 01 set to

S:MIDI : 1A-Device01

I've searched for almost 2 hours, and looked at pages #11, 51, and 127 in the manual. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to:

-hear my keystrokes come out of my MPC with a pre-determined sound using the auto-chromatic assignment (how do i tell it which sound i want to control?)

-from what ive read it sounds like using a program change is the way to merge recorded MIDI data in with a pre-recorded drum sequence, but the only screen i can find (the MIDI Input screen) gives the options for "Prog change>Seq: ON or OFF" , but not which sequence you want to choose.

Please dont flame, I'm really trying to use the resources I have at hand, this message board is great.
