If you use MTC with the MPC the MPC get's the positional reference and then "freewheels" on its own internal clock. The problem is that the tempos between protools and the MPC differ slightly and will drift over time.
If your syncing anything from a sequencer I would highly recommend using MIDI beat clock as the tempo master. It means that everything is locked to the same tempo.
MMC is only used for transport not for timing. The letters stand for Midi machine control. It was developed so people could hit play from a sequencer on all other MIDI machines connected would go into play mode (This also applies to record,rewind etc.)
The issue of non looping in protools was a bug in protools that has been addressed in an update. Go to the digidesign website and download the updates to fix this problem.
