Well it depends on what desire you have for the type of production you wanna do. For example... You have a MPC and a computer... You have the desire to to record the tracks off the MPC into the computer... Well your next purchase would be a audio interface/DAW software. DAW software usually comes with any interface your purchase, so all you would now need is the necessary cables. Then you decide that you wanna record live vocals on your MPC, so you can sample and use them in your beats. You would need a good microphone and cables.....

Now you decide that you wanna implement the analog synth sound into your production... Well you have two options.... Hardware or software.. If you have the extra space(and you want it)then you could get a rack synth module or a tabletop module. If you don't have the space you can get a computer VST to accommodate your needs.... You get Reason 3.0

Now you have a setup that consists of Hardware and software with the ability to control audio or sample audio from your computer onto your MPC.

Just keep doing your research and you'll make sound decisions... Keep an eye on the market for new and useful equipment....

Any thoughts? Anyone used this drive before?? Would this work in an XL?

Yeah at the moment I can have a cheap pcmcia soundcard for free that will improve the quality of my recordings a bit.

I make pretty simple sampled based music at the moment. I'd just like a keyboard in the future because it's better for playing melodies than the mpc. Don't know if I'm gonna go for a midi keyboard or a synth yet.

I went to some shops and people over the weekend to get some advice. Most of them told me to get good equipment from the start and not bother with entry level midi keyboards for example because they thought somebody like me would not be happy with cheap gear and chances are that I'm gonna sell it pretty soon after I bought it. In the end you mostly lose money this way.

A guy I know said he really loves his motu audio interface. I'll probably look into this in a month or so since I've already bought some good studio headphones, an eb16 fx board and a card reader this month.

After that it's a keyboard for me probably...

My EB16 FX board just arrived today...I'm really stoked to get home from work and plug the little guy in the mpc

If it's USB how can it work in an XL???????

IDE/ATAPI is the only internal reader that will work in the XL.

So everything is similar except for the standard floppy or mcd. My mpc2000xl did not come with a power chord so i can just go to radio shack and say i need a Power: 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz and it should work right? got thisi nfo of akai site mcd version.
