Microtech PCD-47B Card Reader on the 2000XL.

I bought my -47B card reader on Ebay a few years ago back when they were cheap - $38. Now they are going for over $100.

Size is a limitation (I think its like 1GB or 2GB for the 2kXL, but I'm not sure. Thanks bro, i just bought a cheap Kingston one recently but do have some high-speed ones for my camera.

Wasn't sure if the high speed ones would be wasted as haven't worked out if the speed of the Microtech Card Reader and the connections it uses would utilise high speed cards. Does anyone know if they would work at their highest speed?!

It's all a bit complicated for me.

i just use a CF 512mb SAndisk, no problems there at all.

It's arrived with no cables - does anyone know what data and power cables i need to buy?

Could anyone show me what power AND data cables/connectors i need? i'm not sure what to ask for in the shops or look for on eBay.

I also don't know how to set the jumper settings. I was given 2 jumpers with the drive but don't know where to put them. Here is a scan of the reader...



There's two sets of 8 pins (one laid out horizontally in the middle, and one vertically on the right)

Any help would be much appreciated.

You need a 4 pin female molex power plug:


And a 50 pin internal SCSI ribbon cable:


Leave the bottom 3 rows of 2 open with no jumpers but put a jumper on the top set of posts to terminate the SCSI.

Check the online manual for the 2nd jumper placement. I can't remember which set of posts on the bottom they go on or if there is a jumper needed there. I'll let you know when i get home.

Sweet, I just bought a PCD47B off ebay and I already have an DB25 to SCSI converter.

So instead of doing mods / solder work on the motherboard I instead adding another DB25 port right above the existing DB25 SCSI port, on the back. So I be able to use a short / external DB25 cable running out and back.... or to an external drive and back. I also have an old 6GB SCSI drive but I can replace that with a couple compact flash cards... this is gonna be sick!!!
