Laptop HD inside my 2000xl?

Tar, Hi, I am trying to do the interal harddrive thing, but am running into some problems. The ACARD IDE to SCSI bridge model AEC-7720U is only compatible with 3.5" hard drives. What model SCSI bridge did you use, and also what model hard drive did you use? Your help is immensely appreciated. One

sorry i took so long to reply had to move.o.k. the acard adapter is compatable with smaller drives. i dont know who told you that it wasnt.but get any 3.5 to 2.5 converter & it will work.i got mine from micro center.but they have plenty at other computer stores & on ebay. my drive is a fushiba 20 gig.(i dont have it open right now)remember to down grade your o.s. to the latest before 1.20 so the xl will format & partition the whole drive. merry christmas & be blessed. tar

Tar, Hi. Sorry to bother you again, but I have all the necessary components for the hard drive conversion. I am getting the error message from the MPC: "SCSI not ready" when I attempt to access the hard drive. Any ideas? Maybe a bad scsi card or hard drive? Thanks.

Tar, I have the ACARD 7720U SCSI to IDE Bridge Card, 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive adapter from CompUSA, 20GB 2.5" Toshiba Hard Drive, & two other 30G Toshiba notebook hard drives (2.5"). I soldered in the power connectors correctly, the hard drive powers on and spins. Thanks.

pablo,what scsi id do you have it on?i think i took all the jumpers off my scsi adapter so the drive was set to i.d. 0 try that.if you still have problems p.m. me & we'll go step by step.

So, heres the deal. I have a toshiba 12.07 GB laptop hd, the 2.5-3.5 adapter, and I jimmy-rigged a cable using the male power connector off of an old floppy drive by soldering a parallel set of wires (one for the floppy, one molex for the hd). I connect the hd into the IDE port (the one closest to the floppy drive itself) and the floppy drive into the floppy connection (the one next to the IDE port). I power up my MPC (I can hear the laptop hd power up) and I load os ver. 1.14. I go to the format screen so that I can format/partition the hard drive, however, when I scroll through the available drives, only floppy, f-rom and scsi (0-9) are available to format. There is NO option for an IDE port or anything.

Does anyone have any idea as to why I cant access the IDE port? Do I need 1.12 or 1.20? Is this hd not compatible? I really want this to work!!!

p.s.:I have pictures, but I have no idea how to post them.

the ide port is not for hard drives.you have to use a scsi to ide adapter,check out earlier posts allthe parts are listed.

You only said that you got the scsi 2 ide on ebay.....Any other known sources?
Ive looked locally, but the tech geeks at the local computer shops just laugh at me like I just stepped out of my time machine and into their stores from 1996.

what on gods green earth would you need THAT for? You might find something like that at the recyclers if you got lucky. Im not even going to waste your time checking our suppliers for you.

i dont think you can find them local but you can still buy them new.but there like $70.
