I sample from both, but it's not where you sample from, it's how you sample. You must watch the meter on the sample screen, you've gotta watch the meter on the mixer. If your sampling from cd, plug it into your mixer, and again watch the meter. If the meter is bouncing all the way to the right on the mpc, but on the mixing board, it's barely doing anything, your gonna get a poor signal. Watching the meter is a VERY important skill that is often overlooked. Look at every, and any meter that you have available. If your recording from the turntable, watch the turntable mixer's meter, if it's barely hitting the red (like it should) make sure the same levels are reaching your mixing board by looking at the boards meter. Then, when you sample into the mpc, you want the mpc's meter to hit the same level at the turntable/mixing boards meters (With the record gain on the mpc all the way down). Only adjust this if you really have to, more gain = more noise. If you can get nice clean signals into your mpc, then chances are, you will get good at recording also, but if you sample poor sounds, then even the best recorder will do very little to help you. The next lesson is stacking (drumz 102) and eqing and re-sampling (drumz 103) haha. Have fun with it.. running into problems is all a part of learning.
