Ok guys, sorry if i am repeating anything previously said, i have tried working my way through this thread but its long and confusing.
Sick and tired of my floppy drive, too many disc read errors.
If i purchase http://www.addonics.com/products/adidecf.php can i just straight swap with the floppy drive
Any help is greatly appriciated, sick and tired of loosing beats.

If I remember correctly, those Addonics card readers work pretty good depending on which MPC you are installing it to.
From what I read, they only work well with certain CF cards like Transcend & SanDisk.

and yes it's hot swappable
does anyone knows if this will work with 1.14?
It seems to work with 1.14.

ABSOLUTELY! To the extent that in the listing of the necessary steps, I would say upgrade to 1.2 BEFORE ordering the card reader, because it is a major pain to put it in the machine after the card reader is installed (I had to disconnect it then get the old floppy back, etc... totally unnecessary backtrack).

It really depends on if your card reader needs 1.20 to operate, and if you want the single 1GB PC compatible partition on the card that 1.20 formats as, or if you want the older larger than 1GB multiple partitions, where I think only the first partition shows up on a computer.
I found that the CompuApps ATAPI 741 works with both 1.14 and 1.20, so 1.20 is not a requirement.
Other card readers might be the same, so I would test it, if interested in running 1.14.
If interested in running 1.14, test it while the MPC is open, so you can easily hook the floppy drive back up and upgrade the OS if 1.14 doesn't recognise the card reader.

2000xl
Correct me if I wrong with my thoughts.
- I can order any of this CF adapters:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=Ad ... E&_sacat=0
- and also buy box 3.5" like this
http://www.shopaddonics.com/itemdesc.as ... KB&eq=&Tp=
- or I can use old floppy FD and mount an CF adapter to it.
and it will work with my 2000xl ?
also I need CF card only max memory 1gb ?

I ordered the ADDONICS DRIVE and this is how things went down

Didn`t work. Did this happen to anyone else? The driver itself doesen`t even have master/slave switch on it and the package is labeled for two different addonics drivers.
I believe my OS is 1.14.

If there is no master/slave jumper, is there anything in it's place, are the connections still there but nothing is inserted, or is there a hardwired/permanent jumper across the connections?
Without the jumper, it is in slave mode, I think, which I do not think will work with the MPC.
Do you have the IDE cable connected correctly?
Are you inserting the memory card before you turn on the MPC, and then trying to format the card from the MPC?
Are you running MPC OS 1.20?

I noticed that there is master/slave switch.! I changed the cable, I had that wrong. Still not working. OS is 1.14 and cf-card is 8GB`s, not recommended 1GB`s.
I think I should get multicardreader, or usb floppydrive because sandisk 1GB cards are so hard to get.

Are you sure that the cable is correctly oriented so that pin 1 on the MPC IDE connector is connected to pin 1 on the CF reader IDE connector?
Pin 1 on the IDE connector on the MPC mainboard is towards the rear of the MPC, not the front as is the floppy connector.
Pin 1 on the CF reader should be marked.
Is the reader set to master?
You do not 'need' a 1GB CF card, you can use larger cards, but they will only format to 1GB.
Straight IDE card readers are not hot swap, which means that you must have the card inserted in the reader when you power up the MPC, and leave it in there until you power the MPC off.
You will possibly also have to format the CF card in the MPC before the MPC will recognise it.
The reader should show up in the list of devices as an IDE device, not F-ROM, do not be confused in thinking that you should be selecting F-ROM when trying to access the card reader.

As far as I remember, OS 1.14 didn't work with my non-swappable CF card reader + Sandisk CF card combo. So, you have to update it to 1.20 (or whatever the last released OS for 2000XL.)
And 2GB Sandisk CF card works fine (which is still in production, easy to get), and that's the one I use. Just that XL can format 1GB only. Rest of memory space won't be used.
Make sure to use Sandisk CF cards, other brands most likely won't work with XL.
CF card must be connected before booting up XL. Think of it as a hard drive on PCs (that's how exactly 2000XL see CF card.)

Oh yeah, missed that, for a straight IDE-CF adapter, like this, it has to be OS1.20.
That will be the main problem.
Only ATAPI readers, usually hot swap, with the additional ATAPI circuitry, will work with OS1.14.
IDE-CF adapters, which do not have any active circuitry like the ATAPI readers, are simply electrical convertors, connecting the CF card electrically directly to the IDE cable, not doing anything with the signal, need OS1.20.
