It keeps varying from booting normally to booting with a blank screen, mostly the latter and I even keep getting the error with all the numbers. Is there something seriously wrong with the machine? Because I tried reconnecting all the cables and it still does this.

Is there anyone reading this who had the same problem? How did you repair it?

try removing the 32 megs of ram if you have it and run off only the stock ram.. see if that makes a difference.

I did, but it still gives me the blank screen.

That's not right. Even with the RAM removed will still have only the stock 2MB of RAM left to use on the XL.
Do you have the 8-outs installed? Looking back on your posts you said when you first turn on the XL, all the lights are on and the screen is blank. I had the same problem and it was because I inserted the ribbon cable for the 8-outs incorrectly and burned up a resistor and the pad sensors. the only thing strange is that you say you get it to work but in 10 minutes it **** up. for my old situation, nothing worked at all after I burned up resistor and pad sensors.

let me know if this is correct for what is happening to your XL.

That's right, I have the 8-out installed. I never touched the 8-out ribbon cable before I got the problem and couldn't have put it back on, since the cable is folded in a certain way so that it is obvious how it should be put on.

An hour ago after opening up the back tolook for the 100th time if something is loose, it worked again. I was busy doing something else, so I let the MPC on for a while to check if the number error appeared again. It worked perfectly for nearly 20 minutes, no freezing. I started chopping up a sample and at one point it gave the error again (this mostly happens while chopping a sample in ZONE mode, perhaps coincidence). I rebooted, got the error 5 seconds later and now I'm stuck on the blank screen again.

it might be hard to do because of the random time it takes for the issue to happen... but maybe go into the test mode and see if anything comes up faulty?

What do you exactly mean?

go to the trim window, then hold shift and push F1. This is the test mode to test out the pads, memory, and more.

I ran all the tests, with no faults found. I disconnected everything from the motherboard as well, it ran for a while but I got the error again. Rebooting gave me some strange lines in the screen and now the blank screen again. I'm desperate for help.

I dont know... I would honestly, get another xl.. and keep that one for parts. I mean, maybe you have no good capacitors .. those could be switched out with a soldering iron... but who knows.

I hope they aren't the lines Im thinking of... :(
If it was me, I'd open it up. Take pictures of everything and start taking the machine apart, cleaning and reseating cables etc.. Remove all the expansions etc... I mean it should be clear by now your not gonna press a few buttons and it will fix whatever it is, but Im sure you know that. The spontaneity of the problem indicates to me it's a connectivity/cable/bent pin etc.. Good luck, hope you can keep another great machine from going belly up.

But I agree with debauch, it's really anyone's guess. Your at a point where you need to consider how you want to invest your time, fixing it or moving on...

Nah, it probably aren't those lines. Had these line appear before but the screen still worked after. Perhaps it's a wrong connection with the screen then? I will take some pictures next week and post them here.

^Word, hopefully someone will see your pics and say "oh dude that happened last week, just put cable x...." the unpredictability of your problem would drive me nuts, so Kuddos for having more patience than I would. Best of luck

Here are some pics of the inside. I hope these are clear enough for someone to find the problem. If anyone wants a picture of another spot of the motherboard, just tell me.
