If the the Floppy Drive works, it's not the IDE port. Try connecting the card reader to the middle adapter of the cable, instead of the end one.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I realized that the floppy connects to the 34 pin IDE, not the 40 pin. Anyone got ANY other ideas at all?

@NearTao not sure what you mean by IDE drive? An IDE hard drive? What would be the cheapest / easiest way to determine if the ide port itself is damaged?

Sorry, effectively what I meant was if you had connected something to the original port... so you could rule out a defective board. So... maybe the better question is, does it work if you connect a floppy to the floppy drive port.

I don’t have a 2k/xl... so limited idea of what I am talking about :D

I'm not talking about the 40 pin on the board. I'm talking about the MIDDLE adapter on the ribbon cable. Isn't one adapter on the ribbon for a master and the other adapter on the ribbon for slave?

Hmm.. you may be on to something. I did seem to get different lights coming on the previous CF card reader I tried, depending on which adapter on the IDE ribbon I tried. It seemed that none of them worked, but this weekend I'll try every combination again. Thank you for your help mate
