but i got more questions
lets say i got the lexar drive
hooked up to my MAC via usb
how am i getting the sounds and kits from
my MPC which are all saved on zip disks
onto the cf card and or my computers hard drive
so i can burn a cdr of them?

If i have this lexar drive hooked up
and slip a zip in it from the MPC
wont it try and reformat it?
My mac has a zip drive in it
and when i take the zip disk from the MPC
and try and open it on the mac
the mac wants to re format it

so how will the lexar work
im not sure if im correct
but from the picture
it looks like it takes zip disk as well as CF cards
can you transfer from one to the other with in the drive?

Also anyone use a GLYPH scsi cdrom drive?

[/quote]I don't know.... it still shows the drive as 5 Gigs, but there are no partitions..... so in the save / load screen there is not nothing that shows "PART:A". But the partitons do show up in OS 1.2 on the drive that was formatted in OS 1.14.

Seems weird to me also..... maybe I'm doing something wrong, but regardless I got the drive to work on both 1.14 & 1.2.[/quote]


just got my PCMCIA drive...
i have 1.2 OS runnin on my MP and i have a similar problem...when i formatted it with the MP it partioned it 21 times (a-h, a-i, a-j...etc to a-z)each with varying sizes the highest being 837 lowest 193..my question is how did you get fewer partitions you said you have 6.. also how do you save in a different partition???when in the save screen i cant find an option to change partitions...by the way i have the same microtech-pcd47b and toshiba 5gb harddrive you used...

aight lets see..... first that lexar drive will not accept zips.... that drive is actually smaller than a zip disc!

Second, did you format your zips on the MPC? (guessing yes) if so you won't be able to read them on most computers. This is what I would do.... get a pc formated zip, insert your current zips into the mpc, load the programs, then take out the current zip, and save the files to the mew pc zip. your computer should be able to read the pc zip and you can back up the files. this will be a long process but it will work and be worth the effort. Once you install the card reader you can then transfer your files to the CF using that lexar drive and then on to the mpc.

I don't have my mpc in front of me, but I think it's like this..... when you format the disc you have options for formating the number of partitions using the scroll wheel....837 being the largest and 193 the lowest... if my math is right:

5 gig drive = 6 (A-F) partitions of 837

5 gig drive = 26 (A - Z) partitions of 193

so when you format I believe you can set the number of partitions then, I used A-F at 837 megs each.


For your second question, that was the problem I had with OS 1.2.... if I formatted in 1.2 I could only get to partition A; B-F would not show up. When I formatted the drive in OS 1.14 all 6 (A-F) showed up. when formatted in OS 1.14 all the partitions will show in up in either 1.14 or 1.2. I have not idea why this happens. Just switch back to OS 1.14 and format the drive that should solve the problem.

yo thanks man switchin back to OS 1.14 was the key...i can see partitions part A-F now all at 837M each...one quick question though, im not sure if its a fautly HD i got ( i already spoke to the person i bought and hes willing to refund me) but occasionaly when i turn my MP on, and select the scsi ID which has my HD on it.... it will freeze saying "waiting" and i get a clicking noise from the HD. just wondering if you have the same problem??i have no problems with the compact flash it will read and write with no problems..so im pretty sure its not the card reader causing the problem...i dont feel like returning the HD and searching for another one if its a common problem with all pcmcia HDs...thanks again for the help..peace

I haven't had that problem with my HD. What you described is the same thing I used to get with ZIPs before they died out. I would return it and get another one.

Ok
i tried this
and it did not work
i put the zip in my MAC first
and there was no formating to be done
my MAC just reads it
then i loaded up a kit .APS
and a all sequences and songs .ALL
into the MPC
I then put the blank zip from my MAC
into my MPC Zip drive
and tried to save to it
and it says formating not correct
the zip shows up on the MPC as ????
Why is nt what you said working?

Try formating the ZIP on a Windows PC. The mac will still read it and the mpc should also.

I m looking for a way to transfer files and samples from my MPC to my PC and vica versa. So this cf reader looks great to me. there s only 1 thing i dont understand:

Why is it possible to transfer files with cf card and PMCIA and not with ZIP disks?

(Or is that possible too? i found on this forum a lot of people who couldn t transfer files with ZIP disks.)

Oh, Man! Bro...I've got a classic MPC-2000 and have been looking for a way to store samples on a large scale without having to use my bulky 100MB ZIP Drive via SCSI! Now, with the classic MPC-2000 that I have, where exactly do I mount the PCMCIA drive in the little slot located below the 1.44 Floppy drive? Then I'd just get the PCMCIA 2GB card and go from there? Thank in advance for your help and knowledge!!!
