PCD 47B scsi multi card reader install pics

i have just read every single reply in this post, but i personally cant come to the conclusion of which drive is easiest, and less of a hassle to put in.

any input on which drive is best to get, or if i do get one, what else extra do i need to make in easy install or upgrade from the internal zip drive I already have in there...thanks peeps

It is not really like one drive is easier to install then another, it's more like which one you can find. The scsi pcd ones are only available second hand. The IDE/ATAPI card readers are more available via computer stores. If you want to upgrade from an existing internal ZIPDRIVE to an IDE/ATAPI reader then there is nothing you need to do extra, just take out your zipdrive and connect the card reader the same way as the zip drive was connected. Make sure the jumper settings on the card reader are set to MASTER, and Bob's your uncle.

Get the IDE/ATAPI one.....

I have the 47B but I had problems getting it to work at first. Everything works great now, but I had to send it off to another forum member to fix a broken part..... and a lot of people have gotten 47B's with the write only fireware too..... if you find a 47B cheap enough then get it, but I think the other drive would be less hastle.

aight yo i just got my microtech off ebay and im tryin to get this shit down before i attempt to install it....i read some posts on it and read the manual...i think i got the termination/id thing down although it was mad confusing.....my only question now is the power supply....if i already have an internal zip drive in my mp do i need to do that modification thing to the power cord? or can i just plug it in? i've never opened up my mp before so i am kind of reluctant to do so w/o researching this thoroughly...thanks

The power cord to the Zip will work with the Card reader you got. I got a Microtech also.
The hardest part was finding the 3.2 firmware (3.1 works also) to make the card reader able to read and write. Other than that it was mad easy to install.

OK. I have a MPC2000xl, OS 1.14

I followed the posted instructions to the letter and instaled a Microtech PCD-47B.

When I closed up the MPC and powered it on, it just says "Wait....." forever.

Someone help!

MPC60 (with SCSI), MPC3000, MPC2000 can use external SCSI readers. i dont know where youd find oone though.

internal card reader + $5 external SCSI case = external card reader.

yeah but that auction says the card reader is broken.

And dont buy from sunnking, the guy sends the drives to you unflashed....youll have to update the firmware to be able to write to it, its a pain in the ass.

My drive was faulty though, I tried everything under the sun, and it does not read any card.

Maybe the drive is faulty ... maybe it's not.

I along with my repair assistant have installed quite a few of these now in 2000XL machines.

Mostly for folk in Melbourne... as I too am based in Melbourne.

Have only ever seen one very dead drive and even then a quick surface mount rework of a lifted track on it's circuit board fixed it fine.
