New OS? How to?

I just wanted to get the OS 1.20 so that I could connect my Microtech PCD 47b...
...but my floppy drive got burned... so what can I now do to get the new OS on my machine?

Does it only work to update the OS via floppy drive?

no the only scsi drive is my card reader...

Some samplers let you update os version from any SCSI drive, like the Kurzweil K series, but I was thinking the Akai MPC series will only update from the floppy drive. Can anyone confirm this?

If the MPC can update from a SCSI device, you would need to DOS format the CF card (select FAT not NTFS in the Format applet), copy the os update file to it and then boot with the PCD-47B attached to your MPC and the CF card in the CF slot.

If this cannot be done, the PCD-47B will work fine with any MPC os. Of course, the 1GB partition size allowed in 1.20 is a nice thing.

But when does this happen - anytime you try to access the CF card in the PCD-47B? Is the card reader internally installed? Has it ever worked?

yes it happens everytime when I want to load or save stuff...
My current OS on the MPC is 1.14 and on the cardreader it is m2.00 if I can remember correctly
I bought it from ebay and did not have the chance to test it, maybe I can get a SCSI-PCI card to test it on my Computer...

The PCD-47B should be on firmware 3.2. Yes, it does sound like you need to get a SCSI card to test the drive as well as update the firmware. The os in the MPC is not the problem.

I do always boot my 2000 from an external zip....so why shouldn`t that be possible?

u have to get the jumper pins set up right on the pcd47b, so as to assign each slot to its own scsi channel.

CF by default should be SCSI-2 so try scroll to that.

i ran my mpc with the old os no worrys, all the update does is open fat system.

i have a post and photo lost in the mpcforums matrix somewhere.

the beauty of these scsi drives is that each slot functions like its an independant device, appearing on its own channel. and its quicker than ide, no doubt.

Actually, I would recommend removing all jumpers from the up/down jumper block where you select the SCSI IDs and termination. This would mean that termination is enabled (as it should be) and the card slots will be on ID 0 for PCMCIA, 1 for SM and 2 for CF. The PCD-47B has an odd termination setup - no jumper means enabled, which is the reverse of most drives.

yeah, you have to try different jumper settings. when i was installing my pcd-47b, it was a struggle until i found out the correct jumper settings.

like scsiforsamplers said, the os 1.14 is not the problem. the cardreader will work under that os.

Actually, there are no jumper setting you need to try. The up/down block should be as I said before and the left/right block should be empty except for a jumper plug on the far right set of pins (this pin set enables/disables the PCMCIA slot - jumpering it sets the slot enabled). That's it - no mystery, no "trying different settings".

That is how we ship every PCD-47B we've ever sold and no one has ever had a problem installing one or getting it to work.
