Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Just experienced a problem with my classic 2000, down cursor button stop working. It still has a strong click sound to it and is fairly new. Any ideas how to fix this problem? Obviously I do not have a warranty, or neither want to send it in. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

open er up, test the tact switch directly. and inspect that the plastic curson pin is pressing down on the tact switch. the plastic buttons may be upside down also, so try rotate it 180.

shit prolly dif on the classic, but ive fixed xl's with the same problem, without having the replace the tact switch.

Opened it up and the down tact switch doesn't appear to be working. Up, left, and right work fine; whats the next step? Anything I can try before sending it in?

tried some deoxit formula 5 to clean it; it is defined as flushing action for removal of survace debris w/ slight lube. it worked but it seems to be still somewhat finiky. Found a electronics tech locally that feels pretty confident with the job, so I might just try and find the part locally and have it fixed as well. Why would the deoxit/alcohol have an effect on its performance, is it just dirty, or is it on its way out? Thanks for being so patient with me, this is the first time i've had a major problem with my baby.
