Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By DameRoyal Tue Sep 30, 2008 2:13 pm
Hey guys,

I'm new on this forum so bare with me. I'm having problems getting a disk Image of my iomega zip 100 on the desktop of my Imac (intelbased running on leopard ). I used to work with a G4 and back then I could see the disk image on my desktop and I could drag and drop wav and aiff files to it.

I've been trying to do this with my Imac but it isn't working. Help please cause I'm about to start crying (for real) I've been at this for almost 4 months.

Settup: 20" Imac (intel core 2 duo) / macosx leopard 10.5.4/ Iomega zip100 / M audio fasttrack pro / roland pc-180 / Emu proteus2000 / akai mpc2000 / turntable and mixer / Cubase essentials 4

first of all, because this does in fact make a huge difference... what type of iomega zip 100 do you have? is it parallel, usb, or what?
By DameRoyal Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:30 pm
It's a parallel zipdrive but I had to buy a usb/parallel adapter to connect it to my mac.
this is the usb/parallel adapter I bought:

This sort of adapter is the only way I can hook my mpc up to my Imac.

So that's it ..... . Does anybody have an idea what I could use instead of my iomega zipdrive.
Something that is macosx leopard compatible. Meanwhile I'm going to find out if apple or iomega have a sollution for my problem.

BTW thanks mr debauch and 714 beats

i find it hard to believe that leopard wont recognise an external zip disc... though i dont have a leopard machine myself.. i'm able to mount my MPC zip 100s on my mac book pro with 10.4.11

what i did was i formatted the zip 100s on my windows XP computer as "fat 16"

I think leopard is the problem. It worked fine wen it was hooked up to my G4 and I was running tiger.
Now eversince I got my new Imac with leopard the darn thing won't recognize my zipdrive.
And yes I did format the zip but it still won't work.

Iomega doesn't make drivers for leopard and I haven't got a reply from apple yet

I finally got an answer from apple. Leopard is the problem and they aren't planning to do anything about it.

Hopefully someone can fix this but I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Oh well

Just for reference, I have newer macbook running leopard and it reads my USB zip 100 just fine. I have two zip drives though, one usb (computer) and one scsi (mpc). i thinks it might be the adapter? try finding usb zip 100 drive, I'm not sure about Amsterdam, but they are super cheap over here...

Thanks for the tip. Yeah they're really cheap overhere. I'm going to try to get one. I'll let you guys know if it works.

One question though....how am I gonna hook it up to my mpc if it's usb or is there a scsi connection from the zipdrive to my mpc and a usb connection from the zip to my mac.

scsiforsamplers.com wrote:You'll need to continue to use a SCSI zip drive with your MPC. Many people have that setup - SCSI zip for the MPC and USB zip for the computer.

Okay I get it but do you know if the usb zip is compatible with leopard. It would be pointless to buy one only to find out that leopard won't recognize that eather.

BTW thanks for helping me out here. I realize that it's been a while since I logged on, but I was really bussy. So again thanks for all the advice.

Hi guys

I've just bought a scsi cardreader kit because I'm looking for a more longterm sollution and the flashcards are supposed to be the sh*t so I'm really siked. I'll be back to tell you if it works.

Deuces,
Dame Royal.

yeah vista wont accept the parallel iomega zip drive either.

And also, zip drives are one of those things you cant slap a parallel to usb adapter on. I hear it doesn't function with zip.

Yeah iomega drives are cheap I got a zip250 and 4 disks for free on freecycle
