MPC 2000XL CF reader issue

I've just bought an MPC2000xl from ebay with a CF reader ready installed.

I popped down the shop and bought a CF card (lexar 2gb) as soon as it arrived.

The MPC seems to work fine without a cf card in the slot, but when I put the CF card in the screen goes funny and displays weird characters, making it almost impossible to read..... can anyone help with this please? its really frustrating because it seems to me the whole unit is useless if I cant navigate them menus properly with a CF card in the slot..

has anyone else ever happened upon this problem at all?

Is it the stock card reader that Akai sells it with or was it an add on?
Did you put the card in before the mpc was turned on or after?
These things may matter.

I have the same issue when I use an Incompatible card (Usually any card larger than 1GB)

I insert the card, Boot the MPC, and the normal MPC2000XL loading screen is garbled and shows random lines/characters.

Solution: Don't use that card.

Took the card back to the shop and swapped it for a 2gb sandisk one. Works absolutely fine now.
