300,000 notes

How much is 300,000 midi notes in relation to a fully loaded composition? Do any users find themselves ever reaching the 300,000 sequencing capacity? I am considering purchaing an MPC 1000 over the 2000XL, but the amount of notes allowed in a sequence concerns me. I want to create complex seqeuences...Will the extra 200,000 really hinder what I can do with the 1000?

i use the regular 2 k which can "play" 100,000 notes...and i never had problem on my sequences.....but i only work on one sequence at a time......so if you work like that,i don't think you'll have any problem....BTW,the 1000 and the 2 K XL are quite different machines,not only considering the number of notes...you have to know that the 1 K is made to be used connected to a computer,not as a "standalone" machine,cos'you cannot connect to it a CD-rom drive,which is very convinient for loading sounds from CD-rom......

Always connected to a computer? I thought that the Compact Flash reader would store all you needed sample an sequence wise?

yes the compact flash STORES the datas...;but what about loading.....which kind of samples will you put in your 1k?

how densly layered [or sloppy] is your programming? do you ever record sysex data in sequences? i often surpass 50% [or more] of the memory allocated to sequence data [i'm using the 2000xl], but i don't like completely repetitive beats so i'll have many closely related sequences with 4,8, 16+ bars [many tracks deep]. for live sets i also prefer to focus my energy with other more real time friendly devices [knobs], so i like to have my block of songs loaded and ready to go. i think the 99 sequences is more of a bottleneck for me, but that hasn't stopped me from falling within a couple hundred k of -full-.

so in short, i [personally] don't think i could live with 100,000 notes.

-having re-read that, i think 'sloppy' could be misconstrued. i usually have a healthy portion of muted tracks that i don't flush out when making beats. while you don't hear it, it's there, taking up space. sloppy programming.

I think I have an idea now. Is there any place (maybe somewhere on this site) where I can read more about MPC specs, pros, cons, etc? I am a newbie and I feel bad asking questions that there may be a source for.
