2000xl as MIDI controller for Reason 4 - Setup Help

Hello everyone - first time post.

I would like to use my 2000xl as a midi controller for Reason 4 - much like you would use the MPD series controllers. Has anyone had any success in doing this? This is my simple setup:

MPC 2000xl
M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Reason 4

I'm assuming that I need to have Reason 4 and the 2000xl speak to each other through the Fast Track Pro but I haven't had any luck so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
