IS THE EFX BOARD WORTH INSTALLING ON THE 2000XL

Hey I realised that a few people have mentioned that they use the effects board. I am thinking of getting it but the installation and purchase from akai might cost me a few hundred for it. ive got the 2000xl with 32 ram, and 8 outs.

Anyone who owns the effects board offer any opinions before i decide...im making hiphop/ rap beats.

I have the effects card and to be honest I don't use it at all.
When I first got it I used it a few times.
I have / had too much outboard gear and used that.
However , everybody I know with the effects card swears by it.
You can get it for a lil less if you know where to look and you don't need anyone to install it.
You can do that yourself.
Check the gear for sale section here and just be patient and you should find one for a good price.
When I got mine I think I paid full retail but these days , no way I'd even think of doing that.
That could get me a 2000 or damn near another 2000xl.
I have heard some nice things from the effects card and I really have to start messing with it and learning more.
If you are able to cop it at a decent price it will certainly add more to your mpc.

thanks for the info, yeah i might just buy on off ebay and try install myself i just hate installing shyt into the mpc, etc. Yeah i don't have a hardware mixer, and cbf mixing up samples on the pc after sampling into the mpc off vinyl. abit of a workflow pain in the ass to sample it on mpc, save it, put it on pc, then bring it back onto mpc, so thought it might be a cool addition... but 2000xl is aging anyway so might be best to do it only if i get it cheap.

Im in melbourne too! LOL did u get it online or local? any recommendations.

I was gonna get it thru elfa havent heard their quote yet i just guessed.

yeah im defintely interested in buying it now but wanna pay as little as because dont wanna throw away cash.

It's very easy to install.
I know what you mean about the workflow thing even though I have not been using mine.
Nothing beats having all you need in one machine or close to "all" you need.
You will find this at a reasonable price if you are patient.
Or smart.

cool man thanks. yeah well i guess i have no choice but to be patient due to lack of funds lol. awesome if its as easy as the card reader install should be fine!

Easier.
I did the card reader install , ram , 8 outs and effects card.
Effects card and ram were the easiest.

i picked it up on fleabay australia late december last year, some guy had it up and i think i was the only person who bid! just one of those bargains you get in such a small nieche market i guess...
anyway, the install is realy easy, just slot it in and one mounting screw, like putting a graphics card in a computer or something.

I use the Reverb from it EVERY SINGLE TIME I make a beat. That little upgrade is usefull if you don't rock any outboards or you want to test a couple of things before tracking. Def worth buying one but for less than 200$.

Could you post some examples of the reverb (some short snares with and without the reverb)?

BTW what happen to your 950. did you find the problem?

Just some thoughts:
what happen if you use the mic input instead the line in?
Do you have the SCSI/Digi IO Board installed? If so, I would try to deconnect that board and sample again.

Hahaha, good one, but don't believe that. You gotta find one and check it out or read the effects specs in the 2kxl manual and see if it's something YOU like ya know.

ya i wanted to cop the efx board but the price is pretty rediculous. maybe down the line when i come across a cheap one....

...i think it would be good cuz i think tweekin the sounds outside of the mpc might strip away some of that mpc sound.

can the efx board besides adding reverb clean up the sound too? i.e. - remove hiss, excessive pops or distortion?
