Percussion Time Stretch Presets on Mpc 2000xl

Does anybody know what is the difference with the time stretch presets on the mpc 2000xl. I am using the percussion presets and I dont understand what is the difference between the three of them. Can Anybody let me know this. Thanks. I am trying to figure out what each one of the percussion presets is used for and what would be the best way to use each one thanks

this is a good question. i've messed with timestretching with different presets but i dont really notice a difference in the sound.

i dont even mess with it. i just leave it at the default.

but i would like to know if anybody uses a specific preset to get a certain sound.

some of the presets are pretty self explanatory like percussion and what not. but the others like male or fem vox, etc. i dont know.

"The MPC2000XL uses 18 preset algorithms to carry out the timestretch process, so you
should select a preset that nearest resembles your sample’s content. If the results are not
so good, try experimenting with different presets.

You can use this to ‘tweak’ the selected preset. If the selected preset gives near
enough a good result, but you feel it may benefit from a little fine tuning, try a few
different settings here until you get the best result.
A positive value will help improve high frequency and percussive sounds while a
negative value will help improve bass sounds.
Most of the time, this can be left at zero.

That's all it says, what else are you expecting?

I def read that in the manual years ago. But basically what lamp said, and to add, you know how it might have percussion A Percussion B Percussion C. Each C is always the best sounding preset, its the highest quality preset out of the bunch, do I make sense.

but 'C' can take aaaaaaaaaages i sometimes do 'A' first and if i am happy with the result then try C. To be honest about 80% of the time i timestretch in soundforge its just much quicker.

you really should check out the 'beat making on 2000xl ebook' go through all those tuts and you should feel v comfortable with your mpeezy.

either way, the proccesing time on timestretch is outrageous. it's way faster on a computer even with the file copying hassle.

I hear you, I don't timestretch in my mpc 2kxl anymore, I dont mind taking my time to do things and somewhat perfect them but dam, I can take a bus to CT, have a hot dog and beer with Prah, come back to San Diego and it's still processing a 200kb sample. Like arg.roots and zbigi, I'll just do it on computer (sound forge). Don't have to worry about a, b, c. Your causing your brain cells to deteriorate at an accelerated pace, quit it, lol.

i reallt like the xl timestretch actually.
if you get a percussion loop like a maraca or congas or something then timestretch to fit your tempo its got this awesome shitty grainy sound to it, it kind of pummels the sound and with this massive grainy aliasing type sound.

Just an extra texture to use imo!

and i usually time stretch each individual beat at a time and dont have much to complain about as far as how long it takes on the mp

resampling is a diff story.

Chop small, and don't worry about the presets. I think that was the dumbest way to waste OS memory on the 2000XL. Timestretching on the XL only takes a long time when your processing long samples.. kicks, snares, hi-hats are done fairly quickly. If you truncate your samples correctly, you can use the best quality setting without the long wait times. Male voice/female voice.. makes no difference, and the same is true for the percussion presets. Just ignore em, or use whatever you feel comfortable with.
I haven't used the timestretch on the XL since I last had one, but chopping small made using the feature a lot more enjoyable. I can't say the same for the resampling though; that's so slow it's almost unusable!

hello to everybody, i read all the posts...i agree with all the cases...using a computer is more fast, and timestretch is very long....i use logic pro with mac since one year, so i started to timestretch every samples in logic ( i use a lot of samples) then after making my lop as i want with the spectacular "flex" i resample it in my mpc3000... it's ok, more fast, but now, when i listen to my beats on my 2000xl, i prefer how it used to sound, when i used to sample it directly from the vinyl to my 2000xl then work the sample on there...it sound more "fat" i don't know...maybe more "warm"...even if it takes long time to do it..now i think i'll timestretch the samples in the 2000xl then "reload" them into my 3000....there are different techinques but they have their own defects....

There's a fantastic standalone I use for all my timestretching called "Akaizer". Made to replicate the algorithms in the rack mounted samplers. It gives that great metallic sound that I personally am into, I know others are not as much. But it's free, go check it out.
