Set Tempo In MPC2000

I own an MPC2000, os 1.72. When I highlight the TEMPO field in the sequence window, and enter information via the numbers pad, only the last digit appears -- the other spaces remain blank -- the number I enter replaces the number I previously entered. When I press ENTER it reads 30.0, regardless of my entry. *Except* when I enter 222.2, then for some reason it works properly. The DATA wheel only effects the decimal point (.x) -- needless to say, that doesn't help.

Am I missing something? An os 1.72 issue, maybe? (By the way, did Akai ever update from 1.72?) Thanks for your time.

Sounds weird, usually I just highlight the tempo field and enter the value with the number buttons e.g. 9+1+5 for 91.5 BPM or just 9+1 for 91 BPM. I know this works slightly differently on the 2000XL whereby you have to press 9+1+0 for 91 BPM (i.e 91.0 BPM) otherwise the MPC will think you are entering 9.1 BPM and automatically set the BPM to its lowest possible value of 30 BPM.
Not at my MPC right now but maybe try using the outside digit wheel to highlight the required numbers.
Oh and 1.72 was the last version of the OS and I've never heard of any bugs regarding what you explained with this. Could be wrong though.

The data wheel only effects the decimal point? So if your tempo is 30.0 and you use the data wheel it goes through 30.1, 30.2, 30.3 etc all the way to 30.9 then back to 30.0? Have you tried using the digit wheel?

it´s no bug...that´s for sure.

and the wheel can bring you to any tempo, usually....

try the numeric buttons again and do it slowly but hard....and don´t forget to press enter.....

or tap the tempo....

Slow + Hard = Same Issue.
The digit wheel has no affect whatsoever.
The TEMPO button yields arbitrary numbers in the Tempo field. Probably reason for numbers, but not readily appparent.
I've discovered that all 1's or 3's (in addition to 2's) yield a "proper" tempo i.e. 111.1 222.2 300.0 I suppose I'll just go to the tempo nearest my choice and adjust via decimal point from there. Not the most efficient method, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

do the numeric buttons work ok in other windows?
if not might be a problem with them

It doesn't go from 30.9 back to 30.0; rather on to 40.0, 40.1, etc.

Hahaha, I re-read your first post I understand what you're saying now, all I can say is that's a very weird problem my first course of action would be to make a new OS disk on a new disk and try an older version of the OS as well. After that I would try new ram.
