Noise on MONITOR L/R ....

Hi again mates.Still trying to organize everything around my MPC 2000XL Studio Plus.When i go to shift/sample or shift/4 and setting the MONITOR on L/R i get some mighty noise through my speakers.Is it normal. There are two mono jacks connected to the RECORD IN's of my MPC,i hhoked them because i want to record sounds from the PC to the MPC.WHen i pull out these cables the noise disappears ... Is this normal ? I have problems with recording sounds in my MPC so maybe it has something to do with this noise on L/R.Any advice ?

What you hear is what is going into your MPC. So you obviously have a high noise level in your signal path. Probably coming from your PCs soundcard.

What other problems with recording do you have that you're talking about?

Stilo thank you very much.It's very possible the problems to appears from my sound card.But i tried every possible variation on my sound card and it still doesn't stop this noise.My sound card is M-Audio 192.It has 2 MAIN OUTS,2 MONITOR OUTS and Left and Right IN's.I use Midi Clock. I hear that the sound card should have an option EXTERNAL when you set the Clock Source but my M-Audio provides only Internal Xtal and SPDIF IN.I tried both without success ....

The problem with the recording from the PC in my MPC is that i don't hear the recorded sound. I got all the cables connected at the right places - record in's and main out's to the out's and in's to my PC.MPC is set to ANALOG,STEREO, ID Device 1(the sound card is on port 1) . Then i set the midi device and try to record but it doesn't record any sound . Any advice ? Thanks

First of all...forget about the Clock Source if you are only using the analog channels. Also, forget about Midi at the moment until you get at least some sound going.

So you have your MPCs Outs only connected to your soundcards Ins? Where do you expect the sound to come out of? Any speakers? Mixer? Where are the speakers connected?

If you have an 8-out board, use the digital in (because your M-Audio card has an SP/DIF out too). Dont worry when the in on your MPC is not a RCA (like on your 192) but a jack, just use a converter plug or a RCA-Jack cable.

I had slight problems with noise too, and after 10 seconds I was like f--k it, set SP/DIF up (I have an Audiophile 2496) and it worked perfectly. Digital audio is so much better than analog. There is NO noise (not possible because audio is digitally coded) on digital, so you can really and effectively use the whole treshold thing. Just use SP/DIF its great trust me.

Hi again.Stilo,i have the main outs connected to the sound card in's plus the RECORD In's of the MPC connected to the M-Audio MAIN Outs (i tried to connect it to the MONITOR outs of the sound card too - same result).I have a KRK monitors hooked to the MONITOR outs of the interface.I guess these connections are right - i read so much about all these wires ... damn.


sanderbmx,thanks for this advice.I tried the SPDIF connection too.Hooked up the sound card's RCA OUT to the RCA IN of my MPC and switched out the analog in's.Then changed the options in the MPC and M-Audio to SPDIF - i still hear a disgusting noise and nothing recorded ... You say that the SPDIF on my MPC is not an RCA but actually it does have an RCA out and in.I have the 8 outs board but i don't think i can use it because i don't have a mixer so i don't have any free in's on my sound card to use them with the MPC's outs.So it seems i should stress on the SPDIF connection huh ? I see many people use the analog ins of the MPC without any problems.But i'll try the SPDIF again. If you have more advices it will be high appreciated.Thanks

Stilo,do you mean that i have to disable the MIDI CLOCK option in the MPC ? What option should i use then ? Besides my MOTIF ES try to play a sound from FL Studio and record it in the MPC.So i set the FL Studio on MIDI CLOCK too.Isn't it correct ?

I guess there's your problem. You probably didn't route your soundcards Ins to the Monitor outs. You'd have to do that in the M-Audio mixer panel. Route the Ins to the Monitor Outs, but not to the Main Outs.

Anyway, I would advise against this kind of audio loop you have set up. If you do some settings wrong in the software, you get a nasty feedback loop easily (sound going into your MPC, back out through the Stereo Out into your PC and then back from the PC into the MPC and so on...chances are you have that exact problem already). I would only hook the PCs outs to the MPCs Record In if you need it, and otherwise get a small mixer to combine the outs of your MPC, PC and whatever else, and hook the monitors to that mixer.

Thank you very much my friend.I knew i have to buy a mixer.The main thing i want to do is to use the PC as a sound module and sequence in the MPC.My MOTIF is connected to the PC through USB and RCA for the audio so i guess it will be recorder in the MPC while e i'm playing the synth through FL Studio (if i set the right device settings in my MPC of course). So my last question is when i get the mixer besides the connecting the OUTS of the mixer to the IN's of the sound card should i connect the OUT's of the sound card to some IN's of the mixer too since i need the sound from my PC to be recorder in the MPC.Or i'll be set if just connect the OUT's to the M-Audio In's,monitors to CTRL out's of the mixer and then my MPC and synths connected to the LINE IN's of the mixer.Or maybe for recording i can just use the RCA out of the mixer hooked to the RCA IN of the MPC so then i wouldn't need to connect any sound card's out's to the mixer .. ? Why do you always want to record your PC into the MPC if you say you want to use the PC as a sound module?

I would connect some Alt Outs or whatever the mixer has to the MPC Record In, that way you can record whatever goes through the mixer. And connect your soundcard to one of the mixers inputs as I said already.
