From my experience with the exception of the older MPC 1000's most MPC pad problems can be fixed without the purchase of any new parts. If your somewhat mechanically inclined take your MPC apart and remove the the pads from the pad sensor and clean the pads with soap and water and wipe the pad sensor with a paper towel that has some alcohol on it. That should restore your pads to working order as long as there is no other issues with your MPC.

cleaning the top of the sensor sheet does nothing. but make it shine. the sensor sheet is completely sealed and the contacts cannot be cleaned. you could have big chunks of weed in between your pads and the sensor sheet and it will still work. there may be a connection issue at the terminal where the ribbon goes into the board. check this. but if all looks good and reseating it doesnt fix your problem. the pads are done.

oh and good luck finding a new set.
