2000xl screen light went out?!?

Hey guys... I was using my XL the other day, bangin away at the pads and all of a sudden my screen light went. has this happened to anyone?everything else works fine. all the text is there. no lines thru the LCD or anything. its just the light went out and is now kinda hard to see the screen. do i have to change out the whole screen for $300 bux or is there an inverter i need to replace or something. any help appreciated. thanks yall

It's either dead or the connector got disconnected. Check youtube and try fixing it.

There's a possibility it could be a lose connection, but if it's not, I don't believe there is a way to replace just the bulb itself. I would buy another LCD since they are getting harder to find and the price seems to be increasing, but I wouldn't replace the screen until the LCD is completely unreadable.
Buy yourself a desk lamp for now. Get gully!

I think I remember that also, but if I remember correctly, they just used some red plastic to cover the inside of the LCD screen (or something like that). They didn't install a red light.

You can replace the light itself. Check Midi Rakete, he even has a PDF with some instructions (not for people with two left hands I guess):

That is, if it really is the light bulb that is defective. And it's not even expensive.

Thanks for finding that site! When I replaced my LCD, I noticed the bulb, but I didn't know how to remove it. I kept trying but didn't want to break it. Boobz, refer to the thread on how to replace the LCD. Your gonna go through all the same steps, plus a few extra.

dude if you got some skilz you should get yourself a 3mm blue led. and remove the stock bulb and light the screen with the led. shit will look sick son.

Did you do that or see it done? Do you know the exact specs the LED has to have? Can you connect it to the power supply in the MPC or will you blow it by connecting a totally different type of light?

i havent done it or seen it done. but...... if the xl has its own light for the screen and not a bunch of micro led's like the later models then its a pretty easy task. you just need to vm test the original supply to the bulb thats in there to determine the voltage. then get yourself some 3mm 5 volt led's and resistors if needed. and start soldering. just make sure you get led's with a relatively wide viewing angle. so the light is dispersed across a wider field. it will light the screen more evenly. if you need a resistor to step down the voltage then the guy at your local elect parts store can do the math for you and set you up.
