MPC Drum Kits

Hey guys,
I just spent a good amount of time with a friend talking about the mpc 2kxl and drum kits.
What i know is that in each sequence you could have a maximum of 4X 2 Drumsets that you could browse through
Even if that is about 8 times 64 drums. I wanted to know if there was a way to fit more drum kits in there
Without having to go and load a totally different program.

Have more kits on external storage drive or computer hard drive. 8*64=512 if that's the max you would have to store them in groups of 512 then? I really don't understand this question or have any idea what you are trying to do . Live set with 512+drumkits/songs?

when i use my motif i go through the different drums kits that have (61 sounds per kit X lets say 20 kits)to see which sounds im going to use for a track.
I want to do the same thing with my mpc.
Go through say 20 drum kits of 64 drums each to see which ones i would use.
let me know if you understand or not

sorry 4 jumpin in here wid a retard answer but might be best to listen to the single drum hits you want (on ur pc or wateva) ur favs save them to a disk then load em into into the mp thats what i usaually do i make single folders of kits on the pc then load a bank or two up wid the ish i need but if u want heaps of drums jus load a whole load to every pad an bank on ur mp im not the best mpc user here so maybe lampdog might kno if i dont answer ish right dat dudes on to it

Your first post said you wanted to know if you could 'fit more drum kits in there' and by there I assume you mean the MPC. Your second post asks if you can go through drum kits to see which you would use.

To browse drum kits I would load a bunch up from external storage (.aps) into my MPC's memory then go through the drum sounds and pick the ones I wanted to work with. The other option is to use the disk screen to browse and with some organized file naming you can save individual kits (.pgm) of say 20+ drum sound(Peter Kriss?) and load one then decide whether or not that kit fits what you are working on, so the sounds are never loaded into the MPC's memory. I am still kinda puzzled as to the application of such a huge number of drum sounds in a track... maybe you just want to know the quickest way to browse lots of sounds? Personally, I chop one drumbreak for each track I'm doing off a vinyl record, I guess I just do my browsing on the shelf.

The main thing that you need to do is find a way to organize all of your drum sounds. I save "like-sounds" to one floppy (if you have zip/mcd drive, folder instead of floppy) when it comes to drums. You dont have to load a program at all this way, only the individual sounds you want. Also naming the sample is extremely important. Once you have a system, you could have an unlimited number of any kind of sound, and finding what you want to use wont be a problem.

lets keep it simple. yes you can load individual sounds without loading an entire program.

when you go to shift + load. you can load an individual sound by itself. listen to it to see if you want it. if you want it you assign it to a pad and press keep, if not you press discard.
