Want to get a flash drive on classic 2000, could this work?

I've been reading all the threads on here and came up with what I hope to be a solution to getting a flash card reader on my MPC 2000 classic. My floppy drive just died (Disk read errors to no avail), and I have no way to even load my OS. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on whether this combination of products might work (a little elaborate I know!)



First, install a IDE to CF adapter as per this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=102551


Next, install a IDE to SCSI adapter sold here: http://www.pc-pitstop.com/scsi_ide_adap ... c7720u.asp


Finally solder the MPC's SCSI 25 pin to the IDE->SCSI as per this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67154


Seems a little crazy but I think I could do it if it would work. Probably the cheapest and maybe only option at this point (unless I can find a very small SCSI flash card reader.)

I'm not sure what you mean, what extra steps am I adding? Will this work though?

Since you plan on soldering like this guy is, you may as well just do what he has done, which we/you know already works. I spose the only benefit of your way is that you have an IDE converter, which allows the use of a cheaper Card Reader, but I don't know whether you can use a SCSI to IDE card with the 2000.

I can not find one of those microtech (or any other CF SCSI drives) anywhere. What I am trying to do is accomplished on page 5 of that thread, though he uses a IDE->SCSI converter made by akai. I've found a bootable CF->IDE card for just $3, so I'm just wondering if that IDE->SCSI converter will work at this point, or if there is anything else that will.

That is an external drive. I am trying to do an internal setup so I don't have to lug around an extra unit and need an extra power outlet.

It IS an internal drive - just w/ugly case. Unscrew 4 screws...POW internal drive.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on my original idea. I got a 3-1/2" slot mounting CF->IDE for about twenty bucks, and an acard ide->scsi for about $40 on ebay.

As long as the acard ide->scsi works the same as the akai version, everything thing should be cool. The user "Mikemix" did this same operation, except with the akai converter. I hope this works as it would be a relatively cheap (though time consuming) way to get this mod going.

This could make my project considerably easier, though I will have to put a hole in the back of my MPC.
