Doing functions while still playing sequence

Hi
Im trying to find a way of doign some things without stopping the sequence playing on my 2000xl (i dont have the effects board by the way). I think its not possible but perhaps t is, or someone has a clever way around (how do I do these things while keeping the sequence running?):

I want to turn 16 levels on and off
I want to change the swing setting on the quantize function (i can change the value if the quantise function - from off, 1/8, 1/8trip, etc etc - but no the swing setting on 1/8 and 1/16)

-also - has anyone got an idea why the slider cannot control velocity/sample volume? can this be overridden or am i missing something obvious

Once again as far as I'm aware you cant mess with the quant settings when you have a sequence running.

If you want to control sample velocity/sample volume why dont you just use the 16 levels? The note variation slider can be assigned to a sound and it can control such things as pitch, filter and other things I cant remember as I dont have my unit or manual to hand lol
The note variation slider can also change values by pressing shift and moving it lets say when edditing the start time of a sample..you can adjust it with the slider if you press shift and move it as long as you have highlited the value you want to change

yes i do use the 16 levels for volume but i also like the tactiility of the slider - also you can use this (and turn it off) and assign it to different notes while a sequence is running - which, as you point out, you cant on the 16 lev funtion.
when you talk about using the slider to edit the start point are you referring to the attack parameter?

sorry - i just realised youre talking about using the slider with shift in the trim screen in stead of the jog wheel- definitley a good time saver - but im really trying to work out some live in-play techniques rather than editing stuff.

Anything with numerical values (I think)..e.g. If you are in the trim screen edditing the start and end points of a sound you have just sampled you can use it there instead of using the data wheel. What I usualy do is use the note variation slider to get roughly where I want then fine tune with the data wheel when chopping/slicing a sound for me it gets the job done a bit quicker

Have you seen that third party os for the Akai MPC-3000? You can eddit a sound while the sequence is playing! How cool is that!
Thats what the 2kXL needs...a good third party OS not that I dont like it but I think you could squeeze just that bit more from it
