2000xl acting up

so i had my mpc apart for cleaning, now that i put it back together it tells me to insert mpc2000xl disk . i downloaded the os from akai website and unzipped it to a floppy . when i got home i put it in the mp and the screen said loading mpc2kxl bin. so i figured it was loading , i let it sit for about a half hour but it still saying the same thing. so i turned the mpc off and back on again now it said loading mpc2kxl bin and then it switched to a screen full of different numbers . at the bottom of the screen i can barely read ithink it says rom,step ,memory .... basically i need to know how to get this thing back into working order . i lost without this thing PLEASE HELP ...

try a different floppy disk on it.

also, make sure your ram is seated properly.

make sure also that when you put the case back on that the buttons are proper and none got stuck under the case..


what exactly did you do when you took it apart? how did you clean it and what did you do to clean it?

also, what os did you try and install? if you are using floppy, I believe it should be os 1.14 (not the os 1.20)

by cleaning it i took it all apart (case) took thr rubber off the pads and just blew every thing off with dust off , but my friend did unplug some things and blew off the plug connections . im not sure if he messed with the ram . i did download 1.14 os from akai website when i load it it looks like this on the screen

dust off is always bad news...i vacume my sh1t believe it or not,,but take it all back apart and check everything one final time and make sure theres no loose solder connections anywhere also,because i know the connectors can be a pain to dis-connect,but like debauch said,try another disk!!

i will go threw everything again and double check all connections , i will also download another os on a differennt floppy . any tips on making sure the ram is seated right?

the ram can be a pain to get in compared to modern ram. on the xl, because it is 72 pin simms... there are two metal bend-in clips holding it it straight.

you might have trouble telling if you have it backwards... but look closely at the socket and place the ram in.. on one end you will see an angled bit of plastic on the end of the socket that is supposed to stop you from putting it in backwards. one end of the ram has kind of an indent that kinda goes over this bit on the end of the socket so if you put it in backwards you will have trouble.

you put the ram stick in on a 45 degree angle into the socket and bend it straight up to 90 degrees... then push it past the metal clips so it is held in place..

(kind of confusing i know, but it is tough without visuals)



those numbers you are seeing seem to indicate a ram issue... I dont know if it is a glitch in the os or a physical problem.



try starting up the machine without the ram installed and power her up.




as for the guy who suggested vaccuming the inside, be very careful doing this, make sure the vaccume hose or does not touch anything inside the mpc including the case, because it can cause ESD (a vaccume is a motor that is turned on... not good)

you did right with a can of pressured air, but make sure you only do a few short bursts and not a really long one or else really cold air comes out.

thanks for explaining that for me ^^^ im gonna try to play with the ram now . also there is 2 spots for the ram does it matter what spot i put it in or should i leave it how it was?

ok so i tried to start the mp with no ram . it still says insert disk, so i did and got the same thing a bunch of numbers...so this got me thinking maybe the ram isnt being detected by the machine . i dont no bro, im lost

how long does it usually take to load the os? and is there any steps that you have to take to load it or is it just put it in press no buttons and the thing loads?

im super careful vacuming my things,and i would never blow dust further into the machine!!

I guess its as simple as the 2000 (classic) OS . Just download the os from the akai pro site (its a zip file and it takes a second to download) and extract the file(s) to a blank HD floppy disk. Put it in your MPC and turn it on. Thats it

hold down shift
and press load (numeric key 3)
select the .exe or the .sys in file field
then press do it

and then press do it AGAIN

then it should update,then u have to restart it..

nothing is working im stuck
