500 with classic (2000)

anyone on here using these two together..

specifically..I was thinking about buying a 500 to be portable..
and work on some beats to bring home to my baby..the 2000.. and then expand on them...

anyone doing this?

are they compatible/ are there issues..

any suggestions?

My question/concern would be... if the 500 only has 12 pads and the 2000 has 16, how would the pad assignments for each sample correlate(sp) with one another. I generally follow the Pete Rock method of choppin a loop divided among the 16 pads on the XL, so I dont see how that same track would show up on the 500.

I know it says compatible on their website..
MPC2000/2000XL SEQ (saved as MID file only), WAV, SND, PGM (Most parameters of PGM file can be loaded.)

but they have made compatibility promises before.....
