Yo Folks, wouldn't mind some think of the deal i just got...

Sup people, new to this but sure to become a full time user. Just copped me a 2000 (really wanted an XL, but at the end of the day, does it make much of a difference or would it of been better to wait for one)

Either way it's too late, a 2000 is on the way to me and i'm looking forward to it. Now i know hiphop, very well, mostly and underground fan, and i thought i knew alot of shit until i saw an MPC. I'd heard of it before, mentioned and shit, but up until last year didn't know what one was, so imagine my excitement when i saw exile flipping some hiero and a milli on one... I had no idea how amazing these things were, and exile being a favourite producer of mine had to get one. Searched on ebay for awhile, a good few came and went, the one i ended up getting is this one:

Nice. From what i knew looking at the others (i don't have the best knowledge of these things yet) so went for it.. Mint condition apparantly. I'd heard i'd probably need one of these zip drives etc, so went for this one:

Was gonna get one of these compact flash ones, which would of been nice, but didn't seem necessary? Or am i wrong here.

So yeah, this things coming in a few days, i'm gonna be sitting down with it all night, getting to grips, checking sites etc, probs buying a book or something if i need to, and hitting up these boards.

so really just wondering what you guys think of the deal, and any tips you'd give to an absolute lazy (except when it comes to hiphop), english mother *****r like me.

It's expensive but worth it because of the fx card, 8 outputs + the superb condition.

I've got the mpc2000 too and really love it

There are plenty of tips within the forum so just run a few searches on the 2000 but the best method is getting to know the machine through trial and error using the good ol' hands on approach.

Wouldnt it have been smarter to visit Guitar Center, Sam Ash or whatever music store you have in your area and mess around with one before you spent money on one? Depending on your current rig, you may have been better off with one of the other MPC models (500, 1000, 2500, 3000, etc.).. anyway, enjoy, its yours now!

If it is in mint condition then you've done well, as there must be some battered and bruised 2ks around that people are trying to sell right now! It makes me think I will be able to get around £500 for my 2kxl when I come to sell soon, because it is fully expanded and in top condition for its age.

I'm feeling the pull of the 1k with its portability and extra features, but i'm just a bit baffled by the whole pad scenario with it...

Man i totally would of, but there's absolutely nowhere around here that would do MPC's and shit, not for a long journey that could end up with me getting pissed off anyway! So i just decided to pretty much go for it and put my trust in this thing. Besides, the things i've seen done on it, i can't seeing me not want one, but thanks man!

The classic is a damn good machine, but the XL is better. Period.

as far as the drive, a compact flash is the best but the 2000 is not as flexible as the xl in this department. i believe you have to get a scsi type.
