2000XL...next generation?

I predict that by the end of the year prices for the current crop of 2000xl will be slashed and Akai will release a 2000xl with USB. It seems to me the next logical step. SCSI devices are no longer made (although you can find them second hand on ebay) and USB and compact flash storage seems like the natural solution. This way Akai can still sell the high end stuff with the added features the 2000xl has that you won't find on the mpc 1000. Agree/Disagree?

Could be! I think it would a good step in the right direction for Akai. I was thinking they might come out with a 1000xl with extra feat. that the 1000 doesn't have. However a 2xl with CF and USB would be good.

More likely they would just release a new MPC altogether.

Some kind of middle ground between the 1k and 4k, or just focus on those two models.

A 2000xl with a USB transfer port would be dope. What would be even better would be if it had a real USB capabilities so you could use USB devices with the MPC like Zip drives, hard drives, etc... USB is hot, SCSI is not...

Always nice to think positively... but I HIGHLY doubt that will ever happen. They still haven't even finished the OS for 2 of their flagship products. I doubt they have time to mess with the XL's OS for a slight hardware add on. They would be more likely to come up with a whole new machine (or an XL2 with a couple new features) which wouldn't happen any time soon. SCSI is still very standard for studio samplers. Pros complain when new gear doesn't have it since they have tons of SCSI drives laying around that they spent good money on.

I would love to see the OS rewritten so that you can use scsi to interface directly with the MPC and your computer. That would be a tremendous advantage to current users. This could revive the XL sales. It would posibly save tons of doe on R&D of new designs. I really love the current design and this is my only real request. I would even pay for the OS upgrade.

hell yeah. Like the Linn Upgrade on the 60. This has been a debate in the one post. I think its in the 2000xl section. look for OS modification and Beta OS.

I agree, and it would be dope if akai made the add ons..you know to hook up the older models.
