completely dead note variation?

Hi i just picked up a 2000xl, the note variation doestn seem to be working at all. When i choose a parameter it jsut sets it to minimum and im not able to adjust. Is that what happens when the slider dies or is it indicitive of a more serious problem?

in my mind if the slider was worn it woudl still work somewhat but perhaps im wrong, any ideas?

when i got my xl the slider wouldnt work at all either..i just bought a new one and replaced it...can u solder?
