zip disks corrupting?

I recently bought a 750meg external USB zip drive so I could move easily from PC to MPC (where I have a 250 external SCSI) .. everything was going fine for a few days, then all of a sudden my main program/sequence disk was unable to be read. I backed some of it up but I lost the last 4 weeks or so of data, which was like 60 hours of work. Also my main sound disk is now reading EXTREMELY slowly ... the MPC times out before it can read the disk, but my computer is able to read it after it spins up for like 3 minutes. Has anyone else experienced any kind of problems like this?

Make sure to store all your ZIP disks away from magnetism, because that would probably cause those disks getting corrupted. Next to that, always make at least two back-ups; don't trust ZIP-disks, HDs, or even CD-Rs!

Yeah, aside from my monitors, there are no magnets in my studio area. It's odd that they BOTH screwed up right after eachother, and they were stored in 2 diff places.

I don't know what happened to your disks, but I had some of my MPC master Zip disks go bad on me too. I used to move them back and forth from the Mac to the MPC. I earned that somethign was happening in that process that destroys the info.

Something between the computer's usage and writing and the MPC usage and writing on the disk that is conflicting. So, I never used any disk that was a "Master" disk for that purpose. A Master disk is a disk that I use to store or archive songs, samples, progtrams and stuff. My valuables.

Anyway, I bought a bunch of Zip disks and I have one set that only temporarily serve as a means of transferring files from the Mac to the MPC. After use, they are all erased clean.

The Master disks never, ever go into the computer. All disks are labeled, so I know what I'm using and I store them in diferent places too. That has saved me time and again. Until you figure out what's going on, I suggest you figure out something similar.
