It'll work. I got both in mine by following this...

Nice one! Thats a lap top drive right? So it would be smaller I don't know if the NDISK will fit
with a CF.
Also there is no fan in the XL that why I wanted to use the NDISK from scsi for samplers
it's a solid state drive with no heat.

:( Let me tell you why you may run into a problem putting both in your MPC. The NDISK requires you to run 1.14 in order to access the partitions but most of the IDE card readers (not all) require 1.20. Akai stripped the partitions out of 1.20 (for some stupid reason), so you'll only get 1GB of storage out of the NDISK if you run 1.20.

Unless you put a SCSI card reader in your MPC (or an IDE card reader that works with 1.14), you won't be able to run 1.14 and get the full 9GB of storage space from the NDISK. If you are cool with only 1GB, then you can put the NDISK and an IDE card reader in and run 1.20.

BTW, I am almost ready with my MPC2000XL custom mounting kit for the NDISK. It is a little "shelf" that attaches to the side of the case over where the F/ROM board goes. It's okay to have the 8 out board in but if you have the F/ROM, it may not fit.

Anyone who would like to try out this new install kit, please contact me.

UUUGG! :? Head going to explode!!

What would be my best bet here?

Want solid state hard drive over 1 gig + hot swappable card reader.

Thank yooooou..

Maxillaa, you cannot use an 8GB CF card with the MPC - it will only address 1GB of any media card, plus it isn't swappable. Some people like the internal drive option because it gives them 9GB of fast storage and 9GB will hold a whole lot of samples and beats. Consider most samples average about 1MB in size (I'm generalizing but that seems a reasonable figure) - you could get about 8000+ samples on the NDISK. That is a lot of data to have ready for loading all the time - no card swapping or zip disk swapping - all there, all the time, where ever you take your MPC.

Von, for a swappable card reader, you are probably going to have to go SCSI, as there don't seem to be any more swappable IDE card readers available. How about contacting me directly and let's discuss the options - there may be a couple more that you haven't considered.

ok,my idea was a internal scsi mod like destruktiv did it,use one cardreader inside just to store and another one to swap cards, all on one cable like scsi makes it possible.each cardreader with an scsi to ide converter.but I`m on the 2000 classick...as I know the 2000xl got an internal scsi also.ain`t that possible?is it possible to read 8 GB cards with the scsi connection?

You might be able to use an 8GB CF card (if your card reader supports cards that big) but the MPC2000 Classic and XL will only format and use 1GB of the card. That is a built-in limitation of the operating system on removable media. Using my NDISK drive with the XL and version 1.14 will allow you to use all 9GB of the drive. You can store a whole lot of data on 9GB and it's all there, ready to load anytime. No swapping cards, which with an IDE card reader will mean you have to power down the MPC.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that a Zip drive 250MB ATAPI internal and the NDISK internal would be a good combo for the MPC2000XL. Once you install the NDISK, your removable media drive will be used only for getting samples or sequences in and out of the MPC, so it really doesn't matter which type of removable media you use. The very inexpensive Zip 250 ATAPI drive is a good choice. Couple that with a USB Zip drive attached to your computer and you have it all.

Thank you mr. dj Wilson!
Truth be know I use to work with zip disk's & was hoping not to have to go back to them.
Kind of got spoiled using the 4000.

I'm still trying to figure out how JUKE 179r & this dude http://www.mpc2000xl.com/Internalhd.htm got their cf + HD to work. Are they only getting one gig of HD space?
Or are they using a cf that works with 1.14? Can they transfer files from there comp to the cf card with 1.14?

JUKE 179r please feel free to chime in..

They probably both have ATAPI card readers, which would work with 1.14. It seems to be the IDE only card readers that require 1.20. Just ask Lampdog - he has one of the MCD ATAPI card readers and it works great with 1.14.
