My 2000XL Keeps Glitching Out!

I'm an avid user of the good ol mpc 2000xl. I've been using it as my main production tool for the past 6 years. Recently weird things have been happening. First I noticed my tap tempo was acting up. Then, it completely froze after being on for a bit over an hour and I lost everything I was working on. And today after being on for like half an hour the screen turned to jibberish and every sample i had on the pads began rapidly repeating, in order one after the other. I think my MPC is possessed! I feel as if my child is terribly sick, and don't know what to do haha. Does anybody have any secret cures they know of or anything?

2 teaspoons of lemon, a sugar cube an a shot of whiskey.... then the rest of the bottle cuz I think she's dead and you need comfort juice.

1. Reinstall/Update the OS

2. Check your Ram, pad was making mine act super retarded

3. Freezing once isn't that big of a deal, every piece of computer or music gear will freeze at least once in my experience.

4. Check for loose connectors going to the main board...hopefully it can be resurrected.

When my friend uses my MPC2000xl it freezes up on him almost every time. When I use it, it barely happens, happened to me twice. Is there something he is doing that might make it freeze?

if set up in a different location, it could be a matter of voltage spikes causing it to go in and out. or even if its hooked into a power conditioner the strip could be maxed out as far as current and cause it as well...

Aside from the voltage issues it could just be speed or personal style.

I used to freeze my 60 by going too fast and the machine couldn't catch up. I used to make my 4000 freeze by pushing wrong buttons and jumping around too much, same kind of thing, just overworking the system could do it.

Or could be an overheating thing if you're blocking the bottom ventilation.

My friend's 2000XL kept "freezing" after he would push a button -- turns out he needed to replace the tact switches and not spill drinks on it...

A good cleaning never hurt any MPC

exactly what i was about to say.
my xl use to freeze frequently last summer during a heatwave when i was getting really fast with it, especially when shifting modes. a error screen will just scroll a bunch of numbers followed by a real sick feeling in your stomach. i starting using my 25k again after that, but after a recent cf drive install i'm finding new love for her again.

there is definitely a warmer analogy sound which is better and worse with sample choice, the 25k is pretty clean sounding. but it's fun to get back on the old girl, i a make different style beats when working with her which is cool.
