I know it sounds silly but I need some help with record in

I have my stereo L/R going into line in 7 and 8 in my Mackie 1202
and I have the record in from the mpc going into line in 5 and 6
I cannot get enough of the left and right record signal going to the
level meter in order to record a sample maybe my hook up is wrong.

you have to hook up the record in of the MPC to the master output of the MACKIE.
