How do i find Params settings?

to get basslines, ive read to adjust "reson" and other settings... how do i get to these settings and others, such as decay, on the MPC2000XL? or do you need the 8.out or effects board to use these settings?

Reading it and actually pushing the buttons at the same time will open up alot of doors for you.
