By cash Wed Jun 24, 2009 2:56 am
I have a 2000Xl and the fantomx6 im trying to play my drums on the xl and have the mpc record the midi data from the fantom so that i can use the fantom sounds...

seems that the mpc will not playback midi data..... midi cables are in out, in out on both devices, just not sure of the fantom setting that need to be set up nor the mpc.....also i have mpc on midi channel, programs change off.

anyone have a step-by-step directions for me......youtube did not help
thanks

i do this all the time..

midi ins to midi outs, MIXER mode on fantom, corresponding midi channels on mpc(default drums on fantom is ch10)

hope that helps

good combo if you stay away from presets!

Sync Output = Off
Tempo Override (opt) = Off
-----
MMT/MTC:
MMC Mode = Slave
MMC Output Off

you don't have to mess with any mpc-midi settings at all(except track/channel) to do what you want to do.

in the fantom you might have to set an option to global maybe in settings. but MUST be in 'performance/mixer' mode.

all you want to do is to use the fantom as a sound module and record the midi data to the mpc?

i'm going to my studio in a bit so i'll check it out.

I have this same exact set up.

The advice given is right on. Don't mess with anything in the MPC. On the Fantom you need to put the keyboard into Mixer Mode.

The button for Mixer Mode is located directly above the jog wheel. Press that button and the mixer will appear on the screen.

After that you need to press F1 to switch the different patch list.

In mixer mode you have 16 channels to put different sounds on.

The thing you need to do on the MPC is highlight the track you're on, and turn the jog wheel until it says MIDI. It will default to OFF, you have to highlight OFF and turn it to 1A-DEVICE01

This will accept MIDI data transmitted from Channel 1 on your Fantom. From there on the Fantom you press the cursor to the right once to move it to Track 2 and then go to the MPC and make the next track a MIDI track, but this time move the jog wheel until it says:

2A-Device02

This will accept MIDI data transmitted from Track 2 on the Fantom.

You will need to do this for every track you make on the Fantom that you want MIDI Data to transmit to your MPC.

I hope this helps.

ok on the fantom system setup
sync/tempo -everything is on, fantom is master

under midi- everything is on ... device id says 17 by default
performance ccontronal channel shows 1....

MPC i did not change any midi setting

I highlight 1a-device and press open window-- its set to off....when i press a monitior and then press a note on the fantom it shows nothing,,,,.. i go back and turn it to as track and soft thru it show midi being picked up........ok

but press record on the mpc and i record a 4bar loop there is no playback...

i tried to record on the off, as track and soft thru...

fantom and mpc are hooked up to monitiors, i can get sound from both no problem..
so wut you guys think,, and i am in mix mode been there since day 1

Update, on the fantom under system/ usb... I turned usb-midi thru o. now i can play the mpc pads and controll the fantom, but i am still unable to play the fantom and have the mpc pick up the notes.....also under midi remote keyboard switch has to be turned on....

**I am also unable to change sound.. i recorded on chan 1 on the fantom(mix mode....
mpc is on midi 1a-device 1 , now when i put the fantom to chan 2 ..and mpc on track 2 -2a-device2 , it still plays the notes from track 1........ and i have turned off program change.......
