Suggest treatment for sick XL

Hey All,
Just won the bid on a 2000xl on the sleazebay. but this thing has some issues. Heres what the ad read on eBay:

So basically I'm posting to see if this problem sounds familiar to anyone here & to gather suggestions for a possible fix. All help is appreciated. Help me nurse this thing back to health.

Could be a loose cable going to the screen, could be a problem with the disk drive. I've seen strange things happen if the cable is plugged in backwards. The description of the unit wasn't very conclusive.

Crack it open, see if anything is loose, replace the fuse, tighten all the cables, and hope for the best.

Yeah I had similar issue once. That came up when I installed my cf-reader. It was all blank and I thought I messed all up, but once I re-opened it, checked the cables and tried again it started working aight.

I bet the ebay twat means backlight is present only in which case good luck cos you can't (easly) get the screens for these any longer

Yea, gotta love when people state it doesn't work at all, "BUT IT CAN BE FIXED!"

Check if the RAM is correctly seated as well (or take it out all the way just to test).

So far I've tried:
1. the fuse
2. the memory ( completely removed )
3. re-secure cabling

I've never had the xl b4 so has anyone noticed when an xl just hangs, nothing will appear on the screen and every led will be lit up when you turn it on? 2 my eyes the screen looks fine. I believe its because the os is not loading. most everything on the insides clean...

Have you tried re-flashing the os via Floppy?

Lets hope for your sake it's not a component failure on the mainboard otherwise
your patient may be beyond help.

Make sure the cabling is inserted into the connector the right way. I opened my xl up and tried installing a hard drive, but seated the floppy connector on backwards. The same thing happened to me, all the leds lit up, and the screen was on, but blank. When I flipped the connector around and fixed it I had to reload the OS...

How would I do this if the MPC does not boot up in the first place?
Not being a smart ass, I truly would like to know how that could be possible?

Get a copy of the O/S on floppy disk then insert it in the drive and power up, if the drive does not engage then perhaps there is a way of reflashing the eprom that holds the o/s...

I would think that a corrupt o/s would cause this kind of freeze so it's worth a try.

Well I could'nt figure out how to bring em' back so I sold it to SMC a member here on the forums.
