all samples sound like crap.

Hey,
i got my mpc2000xl hooked up with a turntable and a mixer . the mpc is hooked up by cables with the record input jacks and the stereo output jacks . for some reason all samples i record have a really bad quality. I dont know if i need additional cables or anything. does anybody have an idea?

so you think its broken? holy shit,anyways guys, thanks for your help, i guess i will have a closer look at my whole equipment setup and follow the advice you gave me, if anybody has additional infos, id appreciate that!

ok,sorry, it is kinda hard to describe the sound, but ill try.. all sounds are pretty clear, there is no hissing or anything, but all recorded samples sound less "alive" or "warm" than on the record, almost kind of sterile or unreal. its like if you compare a good vinyl record to a really bad mp3, its like instant music, it does not sound organic at all.
I hope this helps, im sorry i am not a native english speaker so i might didnt find the right words to describe my problem, but maybe it works.

but if it's clicking then it sounds like a similar prob i used to have. where you change the rec mode option to 'main outs' and when changed back my 2500 continued clicking resulting in a annoying compresser like effect when using samples, caused me to save & reset alot. i stopped using that funtion because of it, but idk.

alright lamp dog, thanks for the advice ,also thanks to all of you guys who gave me helpful advices, i will probably try everything out till i get that fixed. anyways, i did expect the mpc to sound different to real vinyl, of course nothing can top vinyl but i did not expect it to sound that different . if I check out videos of other producers on the net, i see that their samples sound like ten times better, like in this vid with black milk:

my samples do not sound like that at all, they sound ten times worse, less "alive" and more "sterile" as i tried to explain, so guess it must be something else. anyways , i will try out all the advices and check all my equipment like my mixer,my converter,etc. and see if i can get it fixed. still open for additional advices though.

1)no, it is connected to the mpc by a mixer.
2)that mixer is a numark three channel dj-mixer,all my eqipment is hooked up to it.
3)the turntable is some old belt driven turntable by gemini but i put on an ortophon scratch needle, one of those pink ones. i wish i could afford a set of technics though.

does the audio sound fine when playing through the mixer?


can you post an audio file?



have you adjusted the Gain control on the record inputs?

have you tried normalizing the sample?


I think you just need to turn up the gain in the mpc.
