Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi,

Just received a used MPC2000xl 2 days ago in the mail. It has a Zip 750 in it and no other modifications. I turned it on about 4 times over those 2 days, just learning the basics of the OS and messing around. Had no problems, saved fine and could re-load previously saved samples. I reserved last night to really get into it. Ended up turning it off after about 2 hrs(to eat), and coming back to it an hr later to see if I have correctly saved my sequences/programs. I turn it on and it's acting strange, doing stuff it didn't do before ... It says my disk(ATAPI) is full(in 'save' 0.0mg), wont read the disk(all my saved stuff is gone), wont save to disk, wont format disk says "Wrong disk".

I'm disappointed, because I really liked the feel of the machine. I did some research and came across similar 2000xl problems but none with solutions. I don't know what to do. Is this problem repairable or should I sell it for scrap?

Suggestions appreciated.

Regards,
Jayson

if u shave a usb zip drive try reloading the os and checking to see if the samples are still on the disk. you could have a faulty drive which is common but not common. since u got it used i wouldnt doubt it since you dont know what type of shyt its been through. b4 u go and order a whole new drive search 4 used zip 250's and 100's or go the route of compact flash since ur still new to it. i woudnt scrap my unit just yet. its most likely the drive

I could install an IOMEGA 100 drive I have at my parents house.

But, I have no external zip drive that I can use(I just have a 100) to re-install the OS.

...Frustration

Another possibility may be that its just the disk that was corrupted....

Well, ordered a 250 disk to see if its just the disk. If it is the ATAPI at least I'll know... Now to convince dad I need his Zip 100 drive he never used... "Yeah... people still use them, I need one quick dammit!!!!".

Thanks for the discussion everyone. I'll post an update when I get the disk.

Best regards.

Update on the situation:

Got a new 250mg Zip disk, works fine in the unit. At least I know now that it was not the drive itself. I do consider the flashdrive a good option to one day, but I think I'll go for the 8 outs first.

Worse scenario: the unit keeps corrupting my disks... then I'll know its time the FD.

Thanks for the suggestions/comments everyone.

Update 2:

This morning, hungover, I went to start the day right with some fun on the 2000xl. Created a new program, I go to save... "Disk format Err." ... OK... go back to LOAD screen, all samples and everything I've worked on in the last month is gone...poof.

The disk corrupted once again. So I figure either the disk drive is corrupted(I got it sold to me this way, the seller denies it gave him problems, highly dubious claim), or perhaps this is a problem from leaving the disk in the drive itself.

I dont think I asked this clearly last time, has anyone had similar problems with their disks corrupting like above? Do you take your disks out of the drive when not in use?

Well, I think i may have to get the flash... undecided, or leave my unit.

J
