I just got a 2gig jaz drive yesterday and damn; its FAST AS HELL!!!

Cop one of these babys immediately! Loading samples into the mpc from my Jaz drive is as fast as moving files around on a PC. No more going downstairs for a snack while im waiting for my Zip drive finish loading. I only have a 1gb disk right now, but i'm gonna cop a couple of 2gb disks soon. All I use my Zip for is transfering files back and forth to the PC for editing.

The best part is friend's Dad gave it to me, free. He overheard us talking about having to get a SCSI Zip drive and was like, will this work? (proceeds to pull a 2gb SCSI Jaz drive out from a desk drawer) He said it was just laying around collecting dust cause his new PC has no SCSI port. Dope.

Good news.
Be careful with that Jaz though.
Make sure you have more than one copy of the files that you save on it.

Enjoy and good luck.

^^ Are they unreliable? :?

I back up everything on my PCs hard drive, anyway. I'm just curious if Jaz drives are notorious...

They've gotten a bad rap. Though it may be deserved. Yours may be fine. But being aware of a flaw in your equipment prepares you on how to handle it. If you double up your saves on everything. You should be cool.

You may wanna do a search here and definitely at google groups to be sure.

Peace.

HOw does the transformation from jaz drive to cpu work backing up without me loosing all my shit like i did the last time.. i have characters of more then 10 and it truncated alot and i lost major work...Is there a way to avoid this... I really need to back up.

I dont name my files longer than 8 characters. I learned to do that after the first time that I transferred a bunch of files onto the PC and it shortened all the file names. Sorry to say it, but if you want to back up your files on the PC you're gonna have to re-name them all. :(

...unless there's some secret trick I don't know about yet? ???
