How to get the MPC Drums & Sounds imported into Ableton 8.

Hey guys, i have an MPC2000(Old model) and im trying to get the sounds that i upload into my mpc from the zip drive to Ableton live 8. I got the mpc to sync with the Ableton Drumrack but i dont like the sounds that are on there. and whenever i hit the pads it seems to have a slight delay in the timing of the snare,kick, hat, etc etc... But as i was saying i would like to get the drums from the MPC and put them in Ableton. If there is anyway someone could explain in a simplest way, because i am a straight up dip. I have a M-Audio Fast track Pro also, and im not sure if it works with ableton 8 and the mpc. i need to know how to take the drums and put them down track by track if anyone knows. If someone does help me, you are a god send. I have a meeting this thursday with someone from Interscope records, and i need to have a demo by then. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and ask what everyone who read this is probably thinking ... you scheduled a meeting with a record company that may be your one big shot at getting a deal and you don't have a demo recorded yet? Not only that but you're still trying to figure out how to use your gear? I hate to be negative but dayumm. You are a dude who likes to live close to the edge.

you have to record the output of your mpc.


connect cables from your mpc, to your fasttrack.


record the audio into ableton live. it is that simple.

if you are not sure how to do it take your mpc with you and play your shit at their place - this is the best thing you can do now....

Its not that i dont know how to use it, its just im very new to Ableton 8, and im not sure if it allows me to use my MPC and its drums, and put them into Ableton. Ive been trying everything, i even did what Lord Toranga told me to do, and whenever i go to the Output option on Ableton, it doesnt show the MPC, it only says like Microsoft Waveable Synth, then like SB X-fI 1 [EEC0] or something. But if anyone has an actual answer to help me out that would be cool, no offense to you scsi, i see what your saying exactly, its not exactly like that though, its a long story...... but please dont post nonsense replys when im simply asking for help. its not like i go around posting irrelavant comments on your questions or your need of help. This is very serious i need to find out asap or i will loose this chance i have. Ive set my midi to 1A,1B,2A,2B on the mpc, and it syncs with Ableton, but i dont want the sounds from ableton. i want them from my MPC. the Midi in light on my fast track pro is lit up, but the midi out isnt, is that supose to be lit up in order for me to be able to send my drum sounds from the mpc into ableton and be able to use my MPC as a slave? please reply quickly. i still havent slept ahahahahahahahahahah.

Okay, I'll try to help - do you just want the drum samples that you have in your MPC to be triggered from an Ableton sequence? If so, use the MPC as an external MIDI module and play the samples from within Ableton, treating the MPC like any other external MIDI module. Then when your song is all ready, take the outputs of the MPC, along with the outputs of the computer where Ableton is running, plug them into your external mixer (you have one, right?) and record the whole thing to whatever device you are using to record to. That is what I would do - it's fairly easy, assuming you have some MIDI cables, an external mixer and some sort of external recording device, like an ADAT, an MP3 recorder, another computer or even a cassette recorder.

Okay, so if i do this, it will allow me to take the MPC Drum sounds from the SCSI Zip drive, and allow me to use the .PGM in ableton and still be able to use the MPC? For example like, I make a beat on the MPC, without even using Ableton, and i wanted to take that beat and put it in Ableton, would this allow me to do it? My bad bout being so rude to you, im just very nervous about this record deal, and your right, i dont know what im doing taking this deal when i dont know how to work some shit still, but hey.. when life gives you lemons, you paint that shit gold right?

It is not as simple as this.

YOU WILL HAVE TO RECORD THE OUPUT OF YOUR MPC, IN ABELTON LIVE.

No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying use the MPC as a MIDI module. MIDI it up to Ableton and use the sequencer in Ableton to record the MIDI tracks. Some of the tracks will use, I assume, Ableton sounds (otherwise, why use it at all) and some of the tracks will drive the MPC and use those sounds. When you have the sequence done, record the output (as LT is saying) into whatever you plan to play it back on and there it is - done.

I'd really try to find someone who knows how to do all this stuff if I were you - a tech guy - who can set you up gearwise and then let you do your creative thing. It often seems like people who are the most creative are lost when it comes to setting up the equipment but sit them in front of some setup hardware and they can create some jams. Maybe you are that kind of guy - no shame in it - everyone cannot be good at everything and I'd rather be able to create great tunes than setup great gear.

you will not be able to load your mpc programs into live 8.


if you have live 8 suite, then it comes with "sampler"


sampler will load EXS24 files.


you will need some sample conversion software that converts mpc programs into exs24 programs.


then you can load the converted sound into ableton.


after this step, you will need to export your sequences from your mpc 2000, into ableton.


much easier to just record the audio coming out of your beat machine.
